Application Archive Files Overwriting Instead of Creating New Archives

When I recently manually archived 1.70d[b].001 (since it had been reported that automated archiving wasn't working), I noticed it seemed to do something (took time, hard drive light, etc.) but when I called up the list of available archives, the most recent one was of "Galactic Civilizations II Dark Avatar (Expansion Pack)_1.50.128", dated 6/7/2007. The actual file name was "Galactic Civilizations II Dark Avatar (Expansion Pack)_1.50.128_06.07.2007.sdc" but the modified date when I looked at the actual Backup folder was today's date (with a creation date of June 20, 2007.

It is my conclusion that the archives are overwriting the most recent archive instead of creating a new file with a new version and date as part of the file name, and this is affecting both automated and manual Archive requests within the Stardock Central user interface. This appears to have been happening since v1.50 and June 2007.

I've only just recently tried using this Archival thing, so I'm not sure how it's supposed to work. But, it looks like I've got the same problem here under Vista. I thought I'd fixed the Auto Archive ability by changing the archive directory out of Program Files. But, after your post, I paid more attention to what was showing an it looks like what you're seeing.

Under SDC's File | Restore Archive screen, I'm showing:

- Galactic Civilizations II Heightmaps 1.50.128 06/13/2007
- Galactic Civilizations II Dark Avatar (Expansion) 1.50.128 06/13/2007

I watched it Auto Archive when I updated to 1.80, so I know there should be something newer there. So, I hit the Browse button and see the following:

- Galactic Civilizations II Heightmaps 1.50.128 06.13.2007.sdc 10/18/2007 2:45 PM
- Galactic Civilizations II Dark Avatar (Expansion Pack) 1.50.128 06.13.2007.sdc 10/18/2007 2:42 PM

So, by the date/time stamp, it looks like things are archiving. But, by the name, it looks like they're re-using the name. Again, I haven't used this before, so I could be wrong.

I have manually asked the program to archive different versions of DA.
Sometimes it does it, sometimes it just does the newest version.

It would be nice if all the versions were available somewhere. There I go
again, complaining, complaining, complaining.

In my case, the bug presents under Windows XP, so the issue is independent of Vista permissions quirks (although I suppose the devs may want to take that into account with a cross-platform solution).

Having checked the name of the archive, I think the problem is linked with the fact that the version of the archive is the version of GC2 and not the version of DA.

I've notified the SDC dev, and he's looking into it.
