Yes , but depending on how many icons will show I use 2 separate docks to do this. I personally have 1 dock that I constantly have running tasks showing and a second dock that I only show the taskbar on when I need it. You can also choose which side of the dock that you want them to show.

Found a link in the beginners forum

* Note that I use Objectdock Plus & I don't know if its available in the free version.

I think that once you get used to hiding the taskbar you won't go back

**** You can always access the Windows start menu by pressing the *Windows* key on your keyboard.

I read the tutorial from the link above, and it talks about when you hide the taskbar, the open application window moves down to cover that space - but I'm having the opposite problem. I want my application window to cover that space, but it does not. Should it do that automatically? And can I make it do it since it isn't doing it on it's own??

right click your taskbar (or start) = properties - taskbar tab - uncheck keep on top
