Alliances

beta 3

Anyone else have alot of problems getting alliances in the latest beta?

I know there hard... i know they take along time. I had no problem getting them in the earlier patches.

But i had 7 + makrs with the arcean. Hadnt ever gone to war with them. Both of us were aligned good. And i had given them 500,000bc and 2 final weapons 6 planets, and they still wouldnt ally with me. And when i started this they were "friendly" with me.

They also werent allied with any one else.

Same problem here- It infurated me so, I simply killed everyone. I hope they upped the value for a diplomatic win

Heck, I shoveled over 1,000,000 bc into the Korx, with whom I never fought with, or done any ill to... (Also I controled about 70% of the Galaxy) While, I did get a high friendly rating out of it, I never got to the required feeling of 'close' - Quit irritating realy

Maybe they sensed your ulterior motive? I find weaker races usually can get to "close" but stronger races usually just get as far as "warm" or "friendly"

Sorta like that joke about the corporate ladder...

When you're climbing it and look down, all you see is a bunch of smiling faces. When you look up, all you see are a$$holes.

From what I understand it, there's a time limit between gifts- if you give two too close together, they'll only take into account the first one (or at least not to such a great extent).

Still seems a bit steep though.

I am not saying this is a bug or something. Just want to know if it was changed, didnt see any mention in the change logs.

Well it used to be that you could ally as soon as your relationship reached friendly. Now it seems as if it is close only. Much harder.

I tried it in my last game, I had tech victory turned off.

Could not get a single race to a close relationship. I gave them techs and trade goods and money. Sometimes 200,000 in a single shot.
No go.
My military was far superior and I had some outrageous influence as well, and they remained at friendly.
Even opening trade routes made no difference.

We'll see what happens in the released 1.3 final.

I think getting close is tricky unless you have a stronger military then the AI you are trying to befriend. On a side note I saw 2 AI's make an alliance with each other for the first time! In all the games I played that has never happened before.

There was a bug that I fixed in 1.3 beta 3 where you could get the AI to like you by bribery, which is never how it was supposed to work.

In order to get a race to be Close with you, you have to have trade routes with them.  The more money you bring in for the other race, the more they will like you.  You can check the report on the trade screen to see how much trade you are doing with them.

Also, the Arceans are neutral.

hrmm so if the gigantic Yor empire thats right next to you is PO'd at you, you can't raise their opinion by giving them a gift? That seems sort of strange... or does it just not raise above a certain amount? Or does that refer only to cash gifts?

Hmmmm I have to agree here with Fuzzybunnies. You should be able to get them to like you at least a little bit.

I mean if a Civ absolutly hates you, and wants you dead, is your first step going to be send an entire freighter of goods and your own people to a planet that wants to see your race extict?
Or would you try to open up diplomatic relations by first saying " Hey, here is a 1000bc, let's talk."

I think that is the way it should be, not sure if it operates that way or not in game. Also, I think it should only get you so far.

in my game, 1.3A i have 4 allies, 3 people warm, 1 friendly and 1 neutral.
i am kinda the weakest in militairy and averall i'm not that great either, little bit the underdog.

i am drath and chose neutral

Yup alliance is hard now. Its almost not worth it now because by the time you allie with someone that can actually help you, would be game over anyway.

Think it might need just a little adjustment. Not much, because the easy dip wins pre 1.3 were just cheese.

I think it does work that way in the 1.3 beta (the next to last version, which I'm still playing until I finish my gigantic game). I've had the Yor hostile to or wary of me, and it has helped, I think, to give a gift now and then. Also, if they ask for a gift, it absolutely helps to give it. It can make the difference between a hostile relationship and a neutral one.

I'm having this problem with the Arceans as well. Im Terran and have tossed all kinds of stuff toward the Arceans throught the game, cause I knew they were going to be tough (because this good race does nothing but militarly take over civs the whole game). But anyhow all the other cive became close to me only through tech trading and regular trading. Evil civs were giving me $$ and I was good aligned. My game settings are on normal too.
