"Out of Memory" 1.3 Beta 1

Iconian refuge just built the Hyperion Re-Supply center galactic achievement (which is odd, because I had already built it), and the game imediately crashed to "Out of Memory".

Here's why this is uncool: I spent many hours on that particular game.

I also have the save game that can reproduce this error on the first following turn.

Edit: I've done a search around, and this bug seems to pop up on gigantic maps, which mine was as well. It was late into the game.

The Re-supply center is a super project, so everyone can get one at the same time. I'd e-mail the save to the bugs e-mail, along with your debug.err. Best bet if this happens often is to set the autosave interval down to 0 turns, which then will always allow you to reload on the last turn you played.

The game will not continue, Glitch. It crashes on the subsequent turn.

OMG ..... this is happening to me as well, soon as I installed 1.3

what's really pissing me off is that I"m playing on a gigantic map and owning 3 Precursor Mine on 3 planets and 2 Precursor Library on 2 planets ..... owning the tech race and owning 25% of the galaxy ......

but the constant crashes with this "out of memory " issue is really ticking me off...

is there some quick fix or twic I could to my computer for this problem or do I have to reinstall the game without installing 1.3 !?!? can I even choose not to install 1.3 !?!? coz I"m using Stardock Central ...

Submit the game to gc2bugs@stardock.com, with your debug.err

If you turn off the checkbox that says show pre-release versions, you can un-install and re-install 1.2.

There is a bug in the load game code that causes too much memory to be allocated, and if the game is saved after loading, that memory becomes part of the save game, so the more you load and save the games, the bigger the game gets until Windows refuses to give GalCiv2 any more memory.

It is possible to avoid the bug if you don't have to save and reload.

I have fixed the bug here and it will be in the next update.

Thx CariElf

yea ..... notice that in the saved files, where the files were usually 7mb and they're all now 70+mb per saved file....

Seems like reinstall the game is the only thing I can do now....

I hope the fix doesn't require the gamer to delete their old saved games...

is there a presumed date for the release of the update !?!?!?

Bummer, looks like the only choice is to lose my saved games. I'll never update with a beta again!

I had the same issue. Near the end of a Gigantic game, and I couldn't save. Luckily, only lost 5 turns thanks to auto save. Nice feature, btw .

I love big fleets, and I love big maps.

So if you turn off the auto-save you should be able to at least finish the game?

Edit: As an aside the minimap gets covered with the light blue veiwing window as your file gets too large.

Bleh. 70mb is weak ! mine are 170+ - see my thread:

beta 2 was supposed to be released today, judging by the fact that it is not here - i suppose it will be outer later

Hey Carl Elf I beleive if you do not know already every time you exit the game, the game seems to hog up all the resources for ram and I am slow to get my computer back up and running when I go back to windows like there is a latency issue and I have over a gig of ram and a 3.2 ghz computer.... do you know if it happens to you?? Also in the beta 1.3 i get missing lines in the map when i pull out or go in like there should be a border for the different races but it doesn't either show up or it barely gives an outline...
