Freights don't stick to trade routes

I was playing the mission archilles heel and had a trade route from my world to the Yor homeworld. This involed a line going east, then north-east past the Altarian capital and then east again. However, any freighter travelling this route would go north-east one space sooner than the line showed.

1. It isn't faster, they just go diagonal one space earlier.

2. What's the point of trade route lines that don't reflect the trade route? They should use the same logic as the ships.
