A generally good rule to follow is to make a registry/system backup before using a "cleaner". That said, could be Icon Packager. If you can, don't use the registry cleaner, purge Icon packager, reboot, run

sfc /scannow

from an elevated command prompt and after it completes, reinstall it. Then don't use the registry cleaner again unless you inspect each key before ok'ing it.

It's not really necessary to use a Registry cleaner. They usually cause more harm than good. Most apps remove their registry settings when uninstalled, and those that don't set harmlessly in the registry. As Doc said, if you feel it necessary to run the Registry cleaner, pay close attention to what it intends to remove!

I used Wise Care 365, (free version), so far no weird issue from it.

I too use Wise Care 365 Premium, it gives No Icon errors after using it. I also use Crap Cleaner, but always watch what Registry results are Given, It Usually says what is safe to clean and what is not, but i still use my own Judgement when dealing with the results, After time you will get an idea of what is best to clean and what is not.

I have used Wise Care 365 and Crap Cleaner For Years Now Doc, i have become used to the results its gives and any clean ups its attempts, I have tried other things on recommendation but come back to them both, they work for me without issues, and i do not have to worry about Heavy weight MBs as my Computer is Very Fast, Packed Full Of Ram, Fast M2 SSDs with Gigabit Broadband.

Mr-Spex, I would think it will be trial and error finding a System Cleaner to perfectly suit your needs, I am sure you will get to were you need to be as there are plenty out there.  You can stick with C cleaner as you have said, just remember to look at each clean up list it gives and either untick anything connected to Icons, or Exclude the scan settings itself connected to Icons, Best Luck To You.
