So, I'm one of them folks that keeps reminding Devteams that it would be really neat to have a Linux port for your games. Normal response is "Go away!" but with a much nicer tone (at first, later the sobbing comes), but now finally there is hope for playing GalCiv II on linux via steam
Tried it out with the new steam feature, Proton, and must say it was a really good 1:1 translation.
I'm running on a low spec machine (NUC with a Pentium 5 and internal "graphics") but even the error line at the splash screen was there, just like on windows. Really just two issues I had:
1. Weird questions about resolution in hexa when trying to start the game. Pop ups go away after a while though, but would be nice if someone could fix this.
2. The font used in the game looks really wonky. OK, not MS Sans sort of wonky, but definitely something that should be looked at.
Besides these two simple problems, everything seem to be just fine, and I'm super happy being able to play GalCiv II again
Here's for hoping for that there are a little bit of support left in this old lady
