ive been thinking recently about hex lines and how some people (myself included) have been asking for region/sector lines
currently if you play the larger maps and zoom out it can get pretty messy with hex lines (which at the furthest zoom become a mesh mess (these should fade out as you zoom out)) and just general clutter
one option would be to be able to toggle things much like you would on the minimap
toggle anomalies, planets, stars, rally points, etc
another option which ive been thinking about is to have a whole new strategic layer the wireframe layer we currently use is essentially a low detail view of everything we have on the map this was designed similar to the gc2 model which was sufficient but with the size increases in gc3 we start hitting some problems
1) we can no longer zoom out enough to see the whole map all at once
2) at extreme distance's the details even of the wireframe objects get to crammed together to provide meaningful information
what im suggesting is adding a whole new layer broken up into 7 sectors and 49 regions (the sectors i think would be nice but the important part is the 49 regions)
what this would look like
it would still show all stars and political boundaries
this would be overlaid with 49 regions. which could have an icon for if an enemy eithar had ships or planets in a region as well as an effective strength ratio between your ships and their ships.
then have lists stating
1) number of stars
2) number of habbitable planets
- colonized by you
- uncolonized
- colonized by others
3) number of ships
- Military and their effective strength
- constructors
- survey/scout
- colony
- starbases
4) relics and resources
- controlled by you
- unclaimed
- controlled by others
this has just been an idea and i know if anything comes of this it wont be in till an expansion but i wanted to see what you guys think of it
any thoughts?
