When I open ModernMix from the taskbar, the window opens for a second or two then the entire screen goes black for approximately three seconds then clears and is ready for use. This 5-second delay is exasperating. Is there a way to get rid of it?

The delay is not present immediately after a computer restart. After the window has been opened a few times (varies in the range of 5 - 8), the above-noted behavior begins.

I do not know how to find the version number, so do not ask for that. I think I am up-to-date.
