Alrighty, been playing a game as Capitar. Got a real good start, but I'd be aiming for this ideal situation in any scenario.
Early game:
First city, pray like hell I get somewhere with huge amounts of production. If I can enchant it to get to level 2 faster, do it. Make this city a fortress, and once it's level 2 pump out a pioneer whenever I can.
Second city, as soon as I have a pioneer. Looking for somewhere for a Town. Huge food, near a river is best because it will help the town earn $$$$.
Any pioneers after the first (which should be whenever the fortress gets 31 population) concentrate on outposting clay, and metal or crystal (depending on which is more plentiful).
Research into civics (need town halls asap, so you can get to 4 cities without crazy unrest). Choose between warfare and magic depending on metal/crystal abundance.
Note: you can't ignore the warfare tree, as you will HAVE to get to chainmail at somestage, however, if you have no crystal near you, it is entirely possible to ignore the magic tree (other than getting shard harvesting).
Count Carrodus (I think that's his name). Should be a vampire with his old school hairdo
Basically made him a governor. Then concentrated on + initiative for army, until I got him to the ability that lets all the army units go straight away. Always run him around with an army of macemen, one range support once you get to 6 man army, 2 for 7.
Mid Game:
More cities. another fortress, conclave, and then the rest towns.
Outpost everywhere so your cities are connected, and you've goblled up tons of resources.
Should have spare pioneers that have nowhere to go by now, use them to build more efficient roads to the borders from your fortresses.
Carrodus should be levelling up + gildar per turn now. If you are getting good mana, you can mix + gildar traits with life magic to lvl 3. If you have a crazy abundance of mana, get air magic to lvl 4 so you can cloud walk.
Carrodus should be using anything that gives him more initiative. You want him to be able to cast battelcry as quick as possible.
armies that aren't running with carrodus should be based around higher initiative style weapons. Preference spears over axes because the blood trait gives you extra accuracy. A mix of range, super defensive swordsmen, and fast spearmen works well.
On challenging, I could just mop up now, I have quite a few armies, and 2 fortresses maxed for production. just got chainmail, now researching into bigger parties. Carrodus' army should be able to walk into anywhere and win. If he can't send a suicide army in first to take out as many permanent units as possible before they die. Then send Carrodus in.
Note: Shrink is awesome. Carrodus doesn't have any nuke spells, so rely on Battlecry and let his army smash them up faster than a nuke
lvl 15 soldiers in leather can take hits from 40 attack with overpower enemies and shrug them off (100+ hp for 3 men!!). Never underestimate the benefits of keeping a stack alive, even if you can't upgrade their armour (no mail proficiency).
Anyways. I'll post another one when I play a different faction
If there's anymore/different info you want let me know and I'll see if I can help out
