Please, add more variety to all spells, tactical especialy (let mages war against eachother over the realms) and diversify tactical combat for those who want more complex system (terrain mods, line of sight mods, weaving spells into new effects and pump spells with extra mana, combining shard magic etc...

No plans for different planes. But we do have pretty big plans for tactical battles getting a lot lot lot lot more abilities than now.
For the sausage factory explanation:
Early on, I had to code the AI explicitly for each spell. And since most players were better at tactical, this was unsatisfying.
But more recently, we've beena ble to start putting the dynamic value of a particular spell or ability into the actual XML. This means that it's much easier to make the AI for it but other players can weigh in on making the AI better.
