I thought I should show this crowning glory moment of my paragon'ed super champion. He's wearing champion gear and the lightning hammer (for the per-level bonus to damage). I've noticed that "Paragon" (the spell) gives enough XP to level, but this XP still gets modified by the champions Int-bonus to XP; so using Paragon along with picking Int-increasing options (as well as the governor path with army-training options) and wielding the green cap of +5 Int means that casting Paragon can frequently net you 2 levels. Unfortunately I realized this too late to focus on getting Brilliant or other powerful Int-options.
For a long time my battle was one of stalemating with the other factions as it was difficult to hold territory with only one potent unit. Eventually though my champion became powerful enough to strike out with impunity and travel the world razing cities for several turns before recapturing territory lost in my core map area.
In combat he crit-ed very frequently, I'd say about every attack was a crit (for about 500-600 damage) though the majority of the time I used his abilities (especially Sweep which is a complete battle-clearing powerhouse).
