EDIT: I guess its not the game's fault. I started noticing the same problems in other applications. so while dusting the PC, I noticed the tab for the pci-e x16 slot wasn't flush, which means the back end of the card wasn't fully seated. I pressed it in until it clicked and just played the game for a few hours with no problems. Thats just crazy how everything was working fine and it decides to come loose at the exact time I was updating the game though. If there wasn't a coincidense, I would have saved everyone the trouble of this post.
Now that I am thinking of it. I did rearrange my pci cards the other day when cleaning the dust bunnies out. I ran the power cable for the xonar D2X under the back of the gtx 570. I think that was preventing it from fully seating. I moved it to the other side, so it wouldn't block as much airflow. (it was right next to the gfx card intake fan)

There is corrupted graphics in the UI
The zooming function skips/pauses for about 1 second from zooming to system scale to planet scale. I also get lots of flickering UI issue which don't appear in screenshots.
This graphic problem started merely 30 minutes into the game I just started with 8 players,(me and 7 hard comps FFA)
Restarting the game, restarting the PC, etc doesn't fix it. The problem just jumps around to something else. That corrupt UI graphic only happened once, then, the next time I started it was the glitched asteroids and flashing UI

Now, yesterday, I was playing without the latest patch. I played a whole game of me and 7 comps on Hard difficulty(8 players total). I had ZERO issues. the whole played flawlessly. no lag even in the gigantic battles. Max graphics, highest effects, 1080p 4xAA. It was a good game lasting almost 6-8 hours
the only difference between yesterday and today is that I opened up the Impulse(now gamestop client) and it found updates for my games, so I downloaded them. Something either went wrong with the patching process, or the patch is just broken. I don't know.
