How do I create BootSkins in Paint Shop 10 and load 'em into the BootSkin program

Hi,

I've been trying for years to create a professional looking BootSkins in Paint Shop Pro 10, but I haven't had any luck. All I know how to do is create just regular BootSkins with no progress bar. I really want to learn how to create one with progress bars. The question is... How do I create BootSkins in Paint Shop Pro 10 and load 'em into the BootSkin program. I don't have Adobe PhotoShop at all and I'm used to making BootSkins in my current paint program. If anybody does these in Paint Shop Pro later than 7 please let me know. I know I can do it.. the point is I just can't seem to figure it out and would love to make some cute ones for my Windows XP.

Well, best I can remember, you make the progress bar parts, and name them to match what they're called in the .ini file, and you adjust the .ini file for position and such, I believe.  The .ini can be accessed with notepad.

 

It's been a while and it was Bootskin XP. So I may not be totally accurate, but that's how I remember it. And there's something to do with dithering for the graphics, lost me there....

Okay, thing of it is I did everything like I should and when I got done the BootSkin didn't show up in the BootSkin program. I use BootSkin instead of BootSkin XP 'cause it's easier and more understandable to me and I use the older version of SkinStudio since it's the easiest program for me to use. I've tried the newer one, but it's too advanced for me. Hopefully, somebody in here will give me more ideas. When I make the BootSkin and the progress bar in Paint Shop Pro 10 I keep thinking I have to merge the BootSkin part and leave the progress bar as is. Am I thinking the right way? I compiled the boot.ini part correctly and the BootSkin still doesn't show up. Don't have a clue what I'm doing wrong. I make these without progress bars and it comes out perfect after I have prepared it in the SkinStudio.

oh good, a psp10 user.

are you using win7 - 64bit? I have psp7 and psp10 and did the updates for 10 to run on win7 but recently I'm getting a "program closed" notice. I have kept 10 on my system because with it, I can see an icon of the graphic. If I delete psp10 it will revert back to just giving me the default icon.

Not sure I completely understand what you meant  gmc2, but you could save the icon, even extract it from the .exe file with icon explorer. And delete, uninstall 10, then change the icon to the icon you saved from before.

sorry, not explained adequately, in your window's browser, graphics files will show a thumbnail. psp7 will not show the thumbnail and just shows the default file icon. well, it sucks when you don't have a thumbnail when looking for a specific file. with psp10 the files show the thumbnail. if I delete psp10, I lose the thumbnails.

now psp10 has crapped out on my, but I still get the thumbnails and was just wondering if OP had had any problems with psp10 recently.

I'm using Windows XP, but all of my Paint Shop Pro 10 tubes are on my external hard drive that I keep in the basement on my laptop. That's where I do my BootSkin creations the most 'cause I don't like bringing my external hard drive from the basement. I have Paint Shop Pro 10 on my laptop's Windows 7 also.

I believe Corel Paint Shop Photo X3 replaces PSP10? I used PSP10 years ago and I found it's abilities pretty limiting but Corel has done a great job bringing better tools to the revamped application. I suggest that you download a trial of the newer version to see if it is better?

I checked out Paint Shop Pro Photo X3 and it's a little bit advanced for me. I've got an Adobe PhotoImpact program that I could use to prepare the image for my BootSkin. Would that work?
