Now this thread can be used for all sorts of conversation on the matters of the title.
But I just want to address one issue. While yes the small army sizes in the late game doesn't make quite as much sense. To be honest they make Alot of sense in the early game. And I have seen posts stating that you cannot support 'industries' with only 20-50 people. Which is to be blunt abit Stupid. A Farm can be small and then expanded and grown from 20-50 workers to hundreds. that is the basis of developing economics. Not only that but iron for example its easy for 5-8 people to go out and gather some iron ore its hard work but its not impossible for them to dig abit on their own and to gather rocks and ore to refine into iron and steel. And in a post apocolyptic world people will do just that in order to protect themselves. Not only this but at first the first 400 people in your population will have to be at home just to keep everything going. Civil law Order dealing with the lower creatures *You may only fight off the big ones whom knows what kind of problems the town watchmen and guards have to deal with* Granted i wish that in the event of a city being attacked or a town a proportional to population *maybe every 50-100 population* Milita formed to defend. but no more then that and those units should be incredibly weak. Why? One would think people would be tough in this world but in reality human beings without professional training or years of experience tend to be weak pile on malnutrition and years of running and most people never feel like fighting again.
I don't want to go on repeating what i've said before and i apologize for my almost ever present lack of grammar. But i felt i had to clarify this.
Finally one last thing. Yes Armies late game should be larger i can agree on this but this can be achieved through modding relatively easily. I agree that late game you should be able to field larger forces and even an ideal Oliver had. I think that squads should be able to have a 'leader' unit that is attached to them. Instead of just being all of the combined stats of the individual units they could have the benefit of having leaders which are normal units but with higher then usual stats and custom gear *You can equip them with any piece of gear their a seperate unit* they attack with the squad and act as a single unit inside of the 'stacked unit' but they have their own abilities to contribute to the squad. from using a bow to shoot to minor magical training resulting in the ability to do basic magic *small scale weak magic to add into the normal attack* or leadership training bufing the squads attack or defense or moral.
This would make fighting more tactical. More indepth. And more 'Epic' Combine this with increasing the military techs to have 3 more stages of unit organization. Platoon which is 40-80 units depending. Company which is 100-200 and Legion 300-500. Legions and companys being impossible to 'train' Instead you build 2 or more platoons and form a company with them. with several companies you can form a legion. Also make it possible for single units after having sufficent research to merge into the larger unit sizes incurring a gold cost for standardizing their equipment *you select their equipment* also add in the ability to 'Retrain' a unit making it spend between 1-5 turns retraining and obtaining new gear. Also since you can design leader units seperately from the regular units you can train them on their own and attatch them to squads of units at your own choice or use them as field commanders. When used as such they act like a minor champion..Their unable to level up or obtain new gear unless retrained and only have their leadership or light magical training. However these abilities are more directed when not leading a group but less effective. For example An Officer/Leader unit is behind a squad of 4 men. They have a leader but hes a direct 'Brute' type officer meaning he has no abilities just his weapons and armor values to contribute to the unit. This other Officer then Utilizes his leadership and shouts commands to them asserting his field control. This provides a small 5-10% bonus instead of the usual 15-20 provided when he is incharge directly. But he can change targets in this way making him an effective unit.
Now all of this may seem odd and indeed hard to implement. But i thought the idea's would be useful here and now. I have given everyone elses opinions thought and decided upon this. So either we mod these features into the game and ask the devs for abit of help. Or they do it in an expansion or update at some point when they get the chance.
Either way i think this would satisfy the community vastly and give the game more of its epic feel While increasing its RPG feel at the same time and Adding an whole new level of strategy to the design of units And their Field Officers/Leaders.
Of course the names will need to be changed and my example may be abit overpowered but i believe everyone will get my point.
Thank you all for your time and for reading this..Rather massive post. Good Night. *Good morning to those that read this tomorrow*
