Brad’s bookshelf: February 2010

With Winter getting along, my wife is insisting that I start taking the books I’ve recently read out of our bedroom and put them away downstairs.

I won’t bore you with the books that weren’t good, below are the ones I highly recommend:

If you have any sons, the first one on that list is a must-have. It’s great advice for teaching your kids how to stay out of trouble in the first place and how to deal with confrontation.

The two books by Ray Kurzweil are life changers, at least for me. The Singularity book really hit home on what directions technology is likely to take. It’s very compelling. 

The Transcend one has opened my eyes to certain dietary supplements that my wife and I have started taking with very positive results so far.

I've read a little on Kurzweil. But all the ways of living a lot longer seem to give credence to the phrase "you aren't living longer, it just seems like it." 

Other than calorie restriction what sorts of age fighting advice does he give?

That's explained in "The Little Black Book of Violence: What Every Young Man Needs to Know About Fighting": Learn what's in the book or you don't have to worry about aging anymore.

I just finished reading John Steinbecks "East of Eden".  Excellent read, still relevant today.  Do you ever read "fiction" books?  My ex...also a Brad, only reads books that are educational.

This seesmto be the case everywhere. I too am running out of space.

My reading list for the same month, much different.

Andrew, Cristopher. The Defence of the Realm: The Authorised History of the MI 5

Burnard, Trevor. Master, Tyranny and Desire

McNeely and Wolverton. Reinventing Knowledge: From Alexandria to the Internet

Bono, Edward. Six Thinking Hats

I have left out the books I have read for my professional purposes. I am as many may have guessed a historian.
