Worth it for Singleplayer/LAN only?

I've tried out the demo and like the game. I'm wondering, though, how good is the singleplayer/LAN experience? I play a lot of LAN games with my brother. Do AI crushers work well with Demigod, and are they fun? My internet is bad because my desktop is wireless, so I can't play online, nor do I really want to. I really like Sins of a Solar Empire and other RTS's, the fantasy genre, and the RTS/RPS combo though. Just wondering how long the AI will hold my interest, as I'll play a strategy game I like until I get tired of either beating the AI, or else going versus massive swarms of units due to resource cheats.

EDIT: Also, are there planned singleplayer updates, as well as modding capabilities for the AI?

Ai is bad. It cheats blatantly and is not hard to beat once you know how to explot its design. So any victory in nightmare tournament is hollow and not representative of real gameplay.

You need real live people to enjoy demigod, so in that regard it is absolutely great for Lan with your friends if you have no desire to play strangers online.

There is a AI mod. Check out the modding forum for that. There are no official singleplayer updates planned what I can think of.

Well it might be fun if you download the AI mod and set it to where the AI has high health low xp/gold and nightmare and then do 5v2... other than that it will get very boring very fast

Just keep in mind, that you will be able to beat Nightmare AI in 5v2 if you are good. That means you +1 AI ally vs 5 AI's.

Nightmare is the "hardest" difficulty level.

I myself can kill nightmare AI's in 5v1, but lose eventually due to the AI destroying towers and attacking the citadel. Even if it means their death lol. AI is really stupid, and it is good for training or testing builds only.

I suggest you play with friends on LAN.

Get some more friends of yours to buy the game, and play 2v2's. Fun guaranteed.

Edit: However, Frogboy said, that there are many people who have bought the game, and played it Singleplayer exclusively. So it is somewhat based on your opinion, likes and dislikes about the game.

I think you can have quite a bit of fun, starting out, against the AI. Worth it, especially if you can find the game on sale. For lan, easily worth it. And like someone mentioned, there is a mod... just search skirmish mod. It makes a pretty huge difference smart the ai is.

I'm sorry pacov but even with the Skirmish AI mod, it doesnt get any smarter.

AI still dies in towers, fights 3v1, and generally is retarded as always. But it makes a whole lot better choices in items, skill builds, item builds, Citadel Upgrades etc.

It depends on the size of your LAN party. I played DG with 7 other people, and it was quite a blast. If it's just one other person, it's not quite as fun.

I kind of agree with that... unless u and a buddy enjoy beating on the AI together. I actually have several friends that enjoy doing just that at a lan party (but its a little boring for me). Everybody's different, though. I tend to enjoy challenging games the most - so unless my buddy is good in a 1v1 game and I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to beat him, I find the game boring.

I just re-read your post. I agree. Ai is still pretty silly, but I'd just argue that the item choices, builds, and cit upgrades make it much more challenging. I'd certainly recommend using the skirmish mod than not if you are looking for a more challenging game against ai's.

No more then 100 hours = 100-150 games.

If play similar games on hard lvl i will take you about 40-60. The single player have no storyline, soon after learning basics u will see that versing AI is more like grinding mobs in WoW or other games. For lan yes it is worht it, only if u get more then 4-6 people.

SP is little more than a tutorial, but playing over LAN should be a blast. LAN games beat Internet everytime.

I play LAN games almost exclusively and this has kept me entertained off and on since it released.

I don't give much credit to the AI but the multiplayer in any form is worth the money.

I have played Demigod mainly in single player, and still do it sometimes. Singleplayer is fun for a while. How long depends on if you like to set your own goals. For example after I had the skill to win the nightmare tournament I set my private goal to win the tournaments with 1000 favor points and more or I tried to win first 1 vs. 3 games, then 1 vs. 4 and finally 1 vs. 5 games. So if you like to increase your handicap if your skill grows you can have fun with single player for month (If you not play it extensively every day).

Multi player is a bit different. Actually it is more needed to play team wise than in single player where you can atually ignore your team. So if you like team games then it could be good. Though when you play in LAN it is necessary that all players play about the same amount of time. Otherwise, for example if you play too much against the AI and your LAN friends do not then you can easily crush them and it is no fun to play.

Demigod is a game that depends very much on personal skill in micro your demigod and how well the team works together. So I would not say it is a question if the game is good, as it is, but if you have the appropiate players to play with.
