SoundPackager crashes

Never ran - Vista Ultimate

Have to say, SoundPackager has never run for me. It always & only crashes. Have tried deleting its directory, all directories, including the program directory & any directories for other users, anywhere on the machine. Have also deleted any keys in the Registry. Then rebooted numerous times before reinstalling SP. Have done this multiple times with only the same result, SP crashes as soon as you try to run it, which includes running it from Impulse or separately from the Stardock directory. Everything on my machine is up to date, drivers, etc. The machine is 2 years old & higher-end. SP has never run in the 2 years I've subscribed to Object Desktop, etc. Have tried these forums before without luck. Hopefully someone knows of an answer to the problem. Thanks.

same here.....works great on my desktop but never has on my ASUS laptop.

The most common issue that would cause SoundPackager to crash is having a corrupt theme installed. Try moving the themes from the following location:

     XP:     C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Stardock\SoundPackager or C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR USER NAME]\My Documents\Stardock\SoundPackager
     Vista:  C:\Users\Public\Documents\Stardock\SoundPackager or C:\Users\[YOUR USER NAME]\Documents\Stardock\SoundPackager

Once you do this, relaunch the application. Then, move one of the themes you have installed back into it's default location.  Repeat this until the application crashes.  If/when it does, delete the theme that was just moved, as it is most likely the cause of the issue.

Actually Shirley....I think in several cases like mine it is a conflict with some of the ASUS software and/or drivers.

I just recently updated my laptop to Windows 7x64 and left off much of the ASUSware and figured I'd try out Soundpackager again and viola! it works like a charm....I wish I could tell you exactly which program or driver was the cause but I only installed the ones which enable the custom buttons for the wifi and bluetooth.

I tried everything under the sun to get it to run with Vista Home Premium (32-bit factory install) and never could get beyond the installation.

I have upgraded from Vista Home Premium 64 bit to Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit.  Sound Packager worked with Vista but it won't even open up on the screen with Win 7.  I've uninstalled Sound Packager and all sounds, ran CCleaner and rebooted and reinstall.   It didn't help any.  I'm taking that it just isn't Win 7 ready.

Same here, Philly, I upgraded to Win 7 Home Premium x64 from its Vista predecessor... but I have no issues with SoundPackager opening or applying/running themes.  It may be as Lantec said, that possibly SP has a conflict with some motherboards software and drivers. 

I have a Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 with an AMD Phenom II x4 920 and I've not encountered any compatabilty issues thus far... touch wood.  However, I do recall having an issue a couple of upgrades ago with an ASUS board messing with SoundPackager in its early days. As I recall, the issue appeared only when I installed software and drivers from the mobo installation disc, but not if I allowed Vista/Windows Update to install the necessary drivers/software for me.

Don't know if this will help or not, but it seemed worth mentioning.

I installed on a fresh install of Win 7 and it won't popup at all, I only see it in processes for about 2 minutes then it disappears. Also, everytime I install it it cause Microsoft Register Service to stop working and error.

It'a the same for me Philly I just bought new computer with Windows 7 Home Premium x64. Evrything worked fine on my laptop which id Win 7 HP over Vista HP. I have a thread going on another page. Honestly Shirley, you could have told me other were having the same problem

As soon as it starts it stops 5 seconds later, the same in avklingler's post and all others I guess. So, what gives with this?

My operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium x64 too. I tried what Shirley said for Vista and removed my sound packages, but that still didn't work. I'm just wondering if they have come up with a solution for this yet or if they are just going to fix this in an update.

VegaSohma... try support@stardock.com.... include tour computer info...and driver info for your sound card.

Same here but I have no issues with SoundPackager crashing, etc.... performs as it should.

As noted earlier, Soundpackager has issues with some Asus motherboards & drivers.  If you have an asus board with onboard sound and drivers installed from the mobo installation disc, try uninstalling them and downloading updated drivers from the net...eg, do a search for Realtek AC3 drivers. That fixed it for me back when I had an Asus board.

Its nothing to do with my soundcard or its drivers, the program interface won't even appear. Its stays in my processes for anywhere from 5 seconds to 2 minutes before it all together disappears. Everytime I reinstall it, it crashes Microsoft Register Service. My laptop is an Acer Aspire 7520. All drivers are up-to-date. I don't use Realtek drivers for they are unreliable. So much so that I had to restart them every couple hours in order to get sound out of programs like Windows Media Player 11, Winamp 5.5 and GOM Player. So instead I use Windows 7 driver: High Definition Audio Device ver. 6.1.7600.16385.

  • Mainboard :             Acer Fuquene
  • Chipset :                 nVidia nForce 560
  • Physical Memory :    2048 MB (2 x 1024 DDR2-SDRAM )
  • Video Card :            NVIDIA GeForce 8400M G  
  • Processor :              AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile TL-58 @ 1900 MHz
  • Current Display :      1440x900 pixels at 60 Hz in True Colors (32-bit)
  • Operating System :  Windows 7 Home Premium Home Edition 6.01.7600 (64-bit)

I managed to fix my problem. But there is still a problem for Stardock to fix. First, I downloaded a free version of soundpackager. While installing, a perticular file would not install and I ignored it (forgot to write it down too), and after it finished, it still would not start up. Then, after that, ran impulse and updated it and it worked. If I installed purely through impulse, Soundpackager would not work. Hi there VegaSohma, I submitted a support ticket a few days ago and they got back to yesterday. In the meanwhile, yestaerday was update day with Mocrosoft and voila, this morning everything works. I submitted logs to them to see what the problem is. I have the latest HD Realtek and Radeon HD, and I still had the problem, so I doubt it was with sound or video cards. I was thinking it has more to do with Windows 7. I see you have the Home Premium version, as do I. 

For me I guess the problem is solved, lest I find more problems. Here's looking to the future.

skyzyk: Do you recall the update that was applied that seems to have resolved the issue for you? I still have yet to reproduce this problem on my own Win7 machine, but it may potentially help the situation others are experiencing.

The .ocx fix seems to be helping a lot of people with issues on Windows 7.  This file should be updated soon for SoundPackager and others.
