Why people get leavers in games...

Why do people get leavers in games? One simple answer... cause they are stupid!

Here is the game I left, even after warning.

We start the game with myself (Sedna), an Oak, and a Regulus, all on Dark, vs. the Light team, with 2x Regulus' and a Sedna. Now, playing vs. 2x Regulus is bad enough, especially when they are both sitting there sniping the exact same target at the exact same time (perhaps on a lan?).

So our Oak is kind of feeding. He isn't n00b or bad, to say, but is having a rather tough time, especially with the snipes. So he feeds a bit and after being called 'Primary' (Eve lingo *yay*) multiple times, he leaves after 5 or 6 deaths. So now it is just me and the other Regulus on my team with a stupid AI Oak.

Light takes advantage of this, and before me or Regulus suffer any more deaths, our AI has already died 3 or 4 times. So Light is having fun feeding. Yet, they are still going 3 vs. 1 or 3 vs. 2 against us. I tell them that them that with their feeding and us having an AI is bad enough... but if they wanted me to stay, to stop going 3 vs. 1. The only time they went 3 vs. 2 was when I had the dumb AI with me (lots of help it is).

So after my warning, I am going up against Regulus and Sedna, and what do you know, the other Regulus is still sitting there sniping me as well. I said my goodbyes and left the game. Perhaps this is wrong of me, but I want to have fun in a game and I was not having very much fun. Of course I was playing with NA. If I was playing EU, people may have been more understanding, but although I myself am American, I will proudly say that we have some of the dumbest people in the world.

In this situation, people, if you want others (your opposing team) to stay, I suggest you keep the game balanced and stop going "omg lolz I pwn!!" when the game clearly becomes unbalanced for the other team. Stop feeding off the AI! Stop ganging up for the kills! Play it a little more fair and perhaps you will not have leavers ruining your games.

Just to be fair to myself, I will let you all know there are many games I stay until the bitter end in... even when I know our team will lose, or, is losing. So many of my teams Citadels have I seen fallen... so this is not just grief talk, but instead, some advice. Anyways, lemme know if you agree or disagree with this.

Meh, as soon as a person leaves and are replaced with an AI then I have no problem with people leaving.

However, your problem should not be with the 2 regulus' or with how they didn't comply to your ultimatum; it should be with your teammate that left you high and dry. It's not fun for the other team to try and artificially balance the game because someone on your team quit.

Aye, you SmellyIrishMan, you're right. They shouldn't have left to begin with... but in order to keep a game going, instead of everyone just quitting, there should at least be a compromise... otherwise, what reason is there to stay, especially, if you know the outcome of the game? If all they wanna do is wipe the floor with you, then everyone mise well go look for another game. IMHO

I agree, everyone might as well go looking for another game (Well, except the full team if they're playing Pantheon). What is the point in playing as though you're playing against your boss or your latest fancy and letting them win every so often? Nobody gains anything out of that except the knowledge that you're playing against humans. You're not being challenged because they're just letting you win at their whim and you've nothing to look forward to because you know you're going to lose. It's just time wasting.

Beginning a match with player drops shouldn't occur. when it does offer the team in which the drop occured to negate the match instead of it being a loss. If players continue to drop give them a the loss not their team. Once a player drops give that team the option to dimiss the match meaning niether side wins or losses. I'm tired of this shit with players dropping as soon as the match starts which means either I can lose right now if I quit or I lose 30+ minutes later when I'm beaten. Whomever thought of this setup needs to be put tared and feathered.

I never leave a game as long as there are mostly human players (As I see it, if I'm getting steamrolled, the game will end fast anyway), but I don't blame you for leaving in that situation.

If the match is close and someone leaves, that's annoying. If it's evident that the team is going to lose/win, I'd rather have leavers than waste my time.

Eg. if someone on their team is feeding and we've got a higher warscore etc, by all means just leave. I have limited amount of time to play and I prefer to just play good matches. Lopsided (easy win, automatic loss) is really not that fun. If you want to steam roll, just play against AI.

Although I do respect it when people really stick it out right to the end, I wonder "don't you have anything better to do than fight this impossible battle?"

I NEVER quit ... even if it is an "impossible battle" (and even if I then have something better to do).

Up to now, my only "leaving" have been a few game-programme crashes : nothing I could avoid or control.

In a 3 v 3, my two team8 quit without any warning or reason. I was then stuck with two mediocre bots. On the chat, I asked my 3 human enemies if they prefered that I stick around until the bitter end : since they said "yes", I played until that fatal outcome arrived.

I had something better to do (such as reading William Gibson's Neuromancer) ... but my 3 human adversaries did not want me to leave.

That's my personal code of ethical sports[wo]manship.

I will NOT quit without consulting with my fellow gamers ... but if you abruptly quit, I don't mind :

It's a game in a free society -- go do something better if you're not interested in playing anymore.

i always say im out if my team is shit and there is no chance in hell off winning like if my team mate died liek 9 times in the first 5 mins that i would leave and most of the time they say i dont blame ya

thats the wrong attitiude to have. You should always try to play regardless if ur team "sucks". Because the truth is, your probably not that good yourself. There is always gunna be someone better than you. With a game that's so imba i don't see why it matters if you lose or not anyways.

I just decided after multiple 3 regs on a team just not to start a game if possible with more then 1 reg on a team

AI is still retarded. Case in point game I played last night in which the AI just stood there and watched me get jumped by another player. It ran back and forth doing nothing then proceeded to attack a tower instead of join in the fighting. After that I just left.

This is the modus operandi of AI. Walk to the enemy's valor flag on Prison. Sit there between 4 towers. Decide to teleport out when it's almost dead and die in the process as the 4 towers keep shooting it the entire time.

If you have a 3 vs 2 match and the team with 3 has an AI. That team will probably lose.

Also played a 2v2, Prison today, my alli left after his first death (Jestercleav I think), but I stayed on, refused to give up. I lost, but the opponets were very nice, and said they would understand if I quit. But I stuck it out. Nothing like playing Sedna, and putting your points in heal/buff to help your team, only to have them leave you solo vs UB and Vampire lord, LOTS of luck winning that.

Ya, something needs to be done about all these quitters; at the VERY least, it should be listed somewhere how many times they've quit vs wins/losses. Also, if they improved the AI, quitting would not quite be so disaterous.

In the end, it's a game. If you're not the type that's gonna have fun losing, feel free to quit. I don't like it, and think its more fun when my teamates stick it out to the end.

Case and point, on dominate the other day, I thought we were done. The enemy had catapaults and giants for a good 4 or 5 waves when we got giants, they had nearly all the flags, were grabbing the portal flags, when my teamate (who had stuck it through) and I broke through and took the majority of flags and we pulled out the win, despite a citadel at like 2000 health and with a pretty severe level disadvantage.

Similarly, the last game I played, my teammate dropped at the start of the game, and I stuck it out. Granted, one of their players wasn't terribly good, and I imagine was probably fairly new, but I actually wound up winning. So... it's possible, and it's still fun, even if you wind up losing, though I agree that human players should be good sports and not exclusively team up on you (unless its going to wind up costing them the game, in which case you can't really ask them to lose just for the sake of "fairness.")

hmm i anit the best but i am good and when my team mates run off and die repeatedly because they are too stupid to stick together or help each there there is really no point too the match it would just be wasting time i could be playing a good match

you learn stuff from a couple off loses but losing because your team still hasn't learnt from there loses makes me bored

hmm the quits to loses would just get the connection area worse because people would kick someone because of there score and then that means waiting longer then people leaveing because they dont like a kicker host

it isn't impossible to win with a comp depending on what demi is the comp rook comp is pretty good with sedna healing him when near dearth hse is fine

IMO the problem is a game can be quite clearly lost and then still go for a good 15-20 minutes while it plays out. That's my beef with it. If you have a couple of really average feeder teammates like I did last night, they give the other team such a massive advantage that in the end it's really not worth the time just playing out the inevitable. I am a big believer of 'there's always a chance of turning it around', but when your feeder teammates keep dying and cant score any kills either, it's pretty futile. Once you get out-itemised, particularly with artifacts, then are down a few levels, it's goodnight irene. Of course if you are down like this and your teammates are actually skillful, you can turn it around. With plebs though, good luck

*edit - as an example to this, i had the above situation on the 3v3 with the waterfalls everywhere(gone blank on the name). My team couldnt even push their first defensive towers, let alone consistently hold the middle flags. Once the enemy (inevitably) captured one of the citadel minion spawn gates - and with a few levels on us, it was GG game over.

Sure new players might not know all the ins and outs and tips and tricks, but i wish they knew the value of not dying. At the very least they should wtfrun at 50% - or even straight away in a 2v1 situation - not try and hope something magical happens.

If the game played out a bit faster i dont think hanging around for a loss would be too bad.

There are some times that the AI behaves half-good in assists and can help the enemy win. A enemy Rook player left a game leaving the other teams Regulus to fight against me and my regulus and I was rook as well.

Anyways, he ended up beating us, simply cus he outplayed us pretty much. Was a close match but he did end up winning. He got Ashkandor as well, so blehh!

I think many new players just don't realized that getting killed "gives" the enemy stuff; they may just think they only get 30 seconds in the "penalty box". Most RTS teach "kill at any cost, and damn the casualties", so they are not use to "do NOT get killed".

I could be wrong. Callthevoid what i recommend you do is get you some friends / people who play and roll with them. I don't really do many pub games anymore. Its so annoying losing because ONE person isn't any good.

I can't say I've quite much if at all.

If you ever want to find out how to manage swarming grunts with a few demigods popping in or out, get in a good 3v3 with two AI players. I have a lot of fun just stalling the other players and its also helpful to learn a responsive playstyle for when such becomes neccessary.

But I can't say it doesn't get old. Then again, so do the numerous Regulus players.
