The thing that gets me is - for the past few nights ive specifically hooked up with 2 other friends to get some games going. Now that's 3 of 6 - it's just getting the other 3.....
At this stage I cant even consider 4v4 or 5v5. There are player numbers out there - less aussies than i would like for the moment but given its not out retail that's not overly unexpected -
But even with 2 friends, WE cant often randomly connect into each others games. All 3 of us are cluey when it comes to Natting and port forwarding, yet we still randomly cant get in.
I think the most common scenario is i will put up a game and they will try and join. 1 will usually get in straight away, the next will often get - as we like to call it 'cock-blocked' by someone else joining. I suspect europeans are the cause too funnily enough. Americans are perfectly playable with us, being in the mid-200's, but Europeans on average ping over 400ms. I suspect they're entering the 'game join phase' and then boosting the overall latency of the overall nat negotiatons and that's when people are getting stuck and unable to get in or getting in with a yellow ping.
Usual solution is to simply recreate the game, hope the aussies get in first and/or keep rinse and repeating this process until magically you have 6 people. This is why 4v4's and 5v5s are basically a mythical fable right now, there is NO chance in hell of getting 8 or 10 people into one game with these kind of connection issues going on.
Despite that, i live in hope. I reckon this game would absolutely rock 5v5.
