Sounds like some of you would have absolutely HATED the Sins of a Solar Empire beta.
Demigod has been extremely straight forward compared to Sins of a Solar Empire. We were making major gameplay changes right into Gamma.
Sins of a Solar Empire, as in, the game that won more game of the year awards this past year than any other game.
Our beta process on our games is extremely rough. They are (as someone else put it) REAL betas.
The Elemental beta will be far rougher than the Demigod beta btw.
Well, I'm pretty sure Fallout 3 received more critical acclaim last year (2008) than any other game. That aside though, Sins did get good reviews (9.0 from Gamespot is quite good).
However, I haven't heard much buzz about Sins as a multiplayer competitive game. Which is fine - it's great as a single player RPG, and probably has a small core multiplayer community (I imagine).
But Demigod has been framed (by the developers themselves) as a competitive multiplayer RTS. So if this were meant to be a single player RTS-type-game sort of like Sins, I wouldn't be so worried about the myriad of gameplay depth and multiplayer connectivity issues that are currently going on with Demigod. I'd be worried...but not nearly so much.
I just don't think you can compare the development of Sins to Demigod if the goals for both games are really as different as they would appear to be.
