Stardock forums incompatible with Firefox spellcheck?

Just today I downloaded and installed a Canadian language back because I was getting annoyed at the computer trying to change all of my "ours" to "ors". So I come back here and huh? The spellcheck doesn't work anymore. I changed the language pack back to US English but it didn't help.

By default the spellcheck option is turned off here and when I turn it back on from the right click menu it doesn't work properly. If I type "appple" it will get flagged but it won't give me any correction suggestions. I tried the Demigod forums and the Stardock forums and got the same problem.

I don't have this problem on other websites, hotmail, gmail and a couple other forums all work with spellcheck just fine. And none of them have it turned off by default. Any ideas?

Known issue with the (third party) postbox we use. IIRC we had some plans to implement a spellcheck for everyone via google, but it's not a high priority due to the already heavy load on the web team.

notice the "quotes" around "acommodate"

Perhaps it's because I KNOW it's accommodate?

That's odd, the firefox spellcheck works just fine here. I just use Control-rightclick to access the default menu, including the spellcheck options/suggestions, and a normal right-click to access the specific controls of this edit box.

Ors isn't a proper word? But isn't ors the proper way to write several ors?

As in "buts, ifs and ors"?

http://dictionary.reference.com/ Is my friend. Of course, it doesn't have buts, ifs and ors listed either, but the point still stands.

.... Pretty sure he was talking about words like "honor" vs "honour" or "armor" vs "armour." American english vs. British english.

Although I'm confused by the original post. He says the US english spell-checker was changing his -ors to -ours, so he tried to install the canadian english spell-checker to fix it?! No self-respecting US english spell-checker would be caught dead changing and -or to -our. And I thought Canadian english is closer to British english than American english... *confused*

Oh whups, yeah thats what I did mean, I can change it. I need to stop posting late. Canadian English is slightly different from British English but otherwise the same.

It does work apparently. Like Netriak said you can turn it on by control right-clicking or clicking on a part of the post box that doesn't have text in it.

The annoying part is that you also have to control right-click on mispelled words in order to see the spelling suggestions from firefox.

That really should be 'third or fourth party,' at least if you're admitting that you think IE should be the browswer we all use for the forums. I only use IE when I have absolutely no other choice. In Firefox (my 2nd-choice browser, mostly used for Stardock forums), you can see hints (temp stuff before an edit box fully opens) that the 'other party' postbox Stardock uses actively rejects the built-in spellcheck provided by Firefox. That seems like a really silly design choice on the part of those TinyWhatever folks.

Spell checking doesn't mean much when the word is spelled correctly, BUT, it is the wrong word.

As in Loose vs Lose, for instance. (one of my pet peeves)

Yeah, but its a godsend for people like me, who know a foreign language mostly by meaning and hearing and thus don't know the exact spellings of words. It makes my posts readable where there was before only a garbled mess.

Same here, I have written output disorder. What that actually means varies from person to person but for me it means by hand I write very sloooooow. Typing on a keyboard is no problem but it does spill over into my spelling and grammar.

Actually if you use the Google Toolbar spellcheck, it marks the mistakes with red, which when you disable the spellcheck in order to post, they remain and appear in the post. Very annoying...
