Not installing correctly? No special effects or sounds working.

After installing CursorXp Plus some time ago I have yet to get the "special effects" or "sounds" working in this application. I have installed through Stardock Central as well as a stand alone application (seperately). Neither way has fixed this problem. It doesn't even register as CursorXp Plus anywhere on my PC, just CursorXp.

I have done numerous uninstall/reinstalls with no success.

Never saw anyone answer their own thread before....

Are you using the CursorXP config or the Mouse config?

Run that by me again Yrag I've downloaded CursorXp Plus through my email from stardock and installed it with my registry numbers. But when I try to use the special effects or sounds none of them work. And I wasn't aware there was a difference in CursorXp Config or Mouse config.

And yeah....I accidently hit the create button before I had a chance to add the rest...Doh!

The Control Panel has the Mouse settings and the CursorXP settings are integrated with it. Set up the effects using that and make sure the CursorXP settings in the Start menu ("C:\Program Files\Stardock\CursorXP\CurXPCpl.exe") show the same settings after you're done....

Tried that....still nothing. I suspect that something is corrupt after it's downloaded and installed. I know it worked once before, but after doing a complete reformat of my pc and then reinstalling CursorXP Plus it no longer worked. Everything else on my pc works as it should except for that.

What I've done so far is...and this is for each way of installing (SDC & Stand alone).

I'd install it and try it out...when it didn't work I would uninstall it...reboot...run a registry cleaner...reboot...go in to folders and make sure everything related was removed... reboot...

Another thing is....in my startup menu...CursorXp is listed under 2 different things...1 is listed under CursorXP and 1 is listed under Stardock->CursorXP->CursorXP Plus. And when I click on the later I get this..."This file does not have a program associated with it to perform this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel." But when I go to folder options control panel I don't see where I would make any changes.

Point it to this:

Ok Yrag....here's what comes up in my folder options under file types. There are 3 different things listed.

(1)
Extension - CUR....File Type - Cursor

Opens with: - (nothing listed)

Files with the extension "CUR" are of type "Cursor." To change settings that affect all "Cursor" files click advanced.



(2)
Extension - CUREXSCHEME...File Type - CursorXP

Opens with: CursorXP

Files with the extension "CUREXSCHEME" are of type "CursorXP Theme." To change settings that affect all "CursorXP Theme" files click advanced.



(3)
Extension - CURXPSCHEME...File Type - CursorXP

Opens with: CursorXP

Files with the extension "CURXPSCHEME" are of type "CursorXP Theme." To change settings that affect all "CursorXP Theme" files click advanced.



So...which of these do you think I should be changing? Or should I change all of them?

Hold on Grasshopper..we're talking about two different things here...

Stardock->CursorXP->CursorXP Plus


When you click that in the Start menu then CurXPCpl.exe pops up. That is the CursorXP config program. It shouldn't even be asking you for an association, but whatever it's asking, point the shortcut to C:\Program Files\Stardock\CursorXP\CurXPCpl.exe

What you're talking about in #7 is downloaded cursor files that need to be associated with a program to install...I don't believe that's your problem...at least not going by your first post.

ok....I just checked the CursorXP listed in my start menu and yes, it is associated with C:\Program Files\Stardock\CursorXP\CurXPCpl.exe. Below that there is another listing that says CursorXp Plus which looks like a html file.

When I click on that is when I get the "This file does not have a program associated with it to perform this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel" prompt. And the reason I clicked on that in the first place was because I thought maybe I had 2 versions of CursorXP installed. But I'm pretty sure I don't. I was just trying to figure out why these dang things aren't working. I assumed that since I had the upgraded version of CursorXP it would say so, but I guess not.

If you wouldn't mind Yrag...send me an email when your online and maybe we can meet up on messenger or something and see if we can figure this out. I'm at msn.com

I don't use IM's....I have enough trouble 'one-fingering' these...

We might be looking in the wrong place for the answer.

Do you have a sound card or an onboard...and, in either case, who made it?

The sound card I have is the one that came with the PC.

Creative SB Live! Series
SoundMAX Digital Audio
Logitech Microphone (Pro 4000)

Don't know if this is what your looking for.

You might want to try out Skype...great free PC to PC phone you can use while online. Best one I've used yet!

is Intel's Onboard.

AC'97 is the onboard audio chipset...do you have 'Onboard Audio' enabled in the bios?

Should I have anything under "Microsoft VM" enabled? Such as Java Console...Java logging or JIT compiler for virtual machine? No idea if that has anything to do with this problem.

OK...you have the Creative Sound card installed and you have the onboard audio controller enabled...can't do that. I'm surprised the 'puter hasn't crashed on you. The reason you're not getting any 'cursor' sounds, but are probably getting music and game sounds is because you have them both enabled and one of them is muting 'computer sounds'. Voice Cancellation settings in the onboard software set to enabled will also do it....pick one....

no...has nothing to do with this....as info: you shouldn't even have MS VM on your machine, unless you did not install any SP's after SP1. Should be Sun Java.

Ok...just checking. I have Sun Java. Not sure if the onboard audio controller is actually enabled. I just copied that info out of my Everest Home Edition utility that gives my info on my PC. How would I know if it is enabled?

And no...no SP's other than SP1.

You need to boot into the bios...when the 'Post' writing first appears on the re-boot, hit the 'del' key. The bios menu will pop up. I don't know what board you have, but it will probably be listed under Integrated Peripherals

Disable the Onboard Audio, hit F10 key and then the Enter key.

ok.... Doing it now, and now that I think about it I'm pretty sure that it "was" off before I did my reformat.

Ok...done...still no cursor sounds though.

Is the SoundMax software still installed? Check the Creative sound ware and see what you have enabled. Sometimes the EAX settings can trash your sounds.......

Look in Folder Options/File Type...see what .wav is associated with...
