PC powering off/freezing

Hello, I'm not sure why, but after returning to Sins of a Solar Empire II after a few months, I've been experiencing serious issues. Whenever my saves reach an hour or more, my PC either shuts off completely, blue screens, or freezes.

This only happens with Sins of a Solar Empire II, and I'm not experiencing similar issues in other games.

My specs are

    • Intel i9-10900KF CPU @ 3.70GHz
    • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060
    • 32GB RAM
    • Power Supply (PSU) ( Corsair RM750, 750W)
    • Storage Drive – Type and model (e.g., Samsung 970 EVO NVMe SSD, Seagate 2TB HDD)

Troubleshooting steps I've tried:

  • Reinstalled the game
  • Verified game files
  • Switched drivers
  • Updated BIOS

Despite these steps, the problem still persists. Has anyone else experienced this issue, or does anyone have suggestions for a fix?

Hello! I haven't really seen other reports like this concerning the game, I appreciate you sharing the info that you have so far. May I also ask if you are running any mods with the game as well as what platform and os?

The bluescreen information probably points to the cause.

I would guess at hardware issue.

Hello!  I play on PC with windows 11 i have the game installed on the epic launcher. I ran the game without mods and with mods the mod i use are just Galactic empire with fractions united mod and the issue still persists.

Have you tried running any sort of monitoring software e.g. MSI Afterburner, to see if there's any sort of CPU\GPU\RAM overloading, overheating etc, especially at the 1 hour mark or so? 

 

What does the blue screen message actually say? There should be some sort of code specifying the issue.

 

Have you tried playing with radically reduced settings? If you disable most of the settings and run everything else on low, do you still get an error? 

 

One of the gaming laptops (Alienware I think?) has overheating issues. A friend had to reduce his SoaSE2 settings to avoid his system either black screening or switching off. Reduced settings appears to have solved his issue.

I haven't seen any overloading or overheating. For the blue screening it popped up maybe twice and I don't remember what error code it gave me. I've turned down all my graphics and settings and my pc still powered off.
