How come that whenever i write a comment here, i cant help havin some deja vu's.... well in a good way though
Lookin at the software development and the constant changes of interface conception in the recent windows version, i feel reminded of the late times with the Amiga Workbench... first the interface itself changed dramatically and then came the time of tweaking.... MagicWB, Mui....etc... (some of that history got wonderfully reflected in the blinds archives, with certain versions recreating these gui's)
Isnt it sort of funny that Microsoft now almost goes through the same.... classic (a la 98), the vista experience, 7 aero, FLAT, Fluent, UWP....
its a mess. And it ends up with a usable consistency almost falling apart....
Now Windowblinds has always been my swiss knife solution against this mess, as a tool to just force a consistent and nice to watch "skin" on top....
And now comes the newest horse in the stable.... Creative programmers......... whats a standard.........., lets hack it a bit.............. and throw some buttons in places where they were never meant to be.... (the mozilla button and chromes tab placement are just very few examples)....
Btw... Windowblinds can even deal with that. But i guess everyone agrees, that is indeed a extra effort. And for a Computer that is meant to be used with my regular dozens of Programs that i use for entertainment purpose, be it media or games, which ends up in a more or less static, and long time used configuration, it will always be my tool of choice. Total control over almost every design bit while forcing it over a defined set of softwares in a consistent manner. Perfect !
BUT
There is also another machine use. I call it the workhorse
Something between 100 and 200 installed programs.... Everything constantly updating (Updates can really be skinners nightmare)...
Windows10 .............omg..... do i even dare to describe ? have you watched the regular disc activities in the resource monitor, just while you are not even using the machine? Microsoft calls this "Windows as a service"..... long story short, it became hyper dynamic.
On that machine is simply no time to fiddle with all these finegrained details that i love so much... It has to work.... fast, stable, and usable.
I dont know how you see it, but that FLAT mess in win10 is NOT usable to me. A minimum skinning actually does not only help seeing things better in it, a little "niceness" is ok while workin as well, isnt it?
Exactly for that purpose, Curtains seem to be the ideal tool. It runs with absolute zero performance impact, and what i like the most, it feels "integrated" into the system. Almost like i would expect a skinning function being part of windws itself. I LOVE IT !!

but...... (yeah i know, there is always another one).... one little thing i am still missing..... possibly the trickiest part....
...the scrollbars.... why are so many programmers almost hiding the scrollbars in their software ??? sometimes just 2 or 3 pixels wide.... sometimes the bar in a 128 grey on top of a 138 grey.... what are these guys thinkin... i dont have time to play where is waldo with my scrollbars.... i want to SEE them... lol
ok... on the given scrollbar width, there might be no chance.... but at least tweakin a scrollbars color, or maybe even texturing it ?
That is the only one missing feature for me. Besides that....

YOU DID IT AGAIN !!! !!! S T A R D O C K R O C K S!!!!
For me the purpose of Curtains is clear
and i will definately use both.... WB and Curtains... it just depends
Have a great day everyone
