I found this part to be a good reminder:
"I tried to reach all the contacts I could find for Hover Zoom’s makers. One person, Romain Vallet, told me he hadn’t been its owner for several years, but declined to say who was now. No one else replied."
In other words, that extension you checked into and installed a couple of years ago may have been fine then, but it since been sold to who-knows-who who is doing who-knows-what with it.
