I've just rebuilt my PC with an i7-4770K and reinstalled a clean copy of Windows 8 Pro on it. The first thing I did was to install the Stardock applications, including Start8 v1.16. However, I've noticed there are a couple of 'bugs' on this fresh install:
1. Despite only currently having around 18 Steam games installed (by launching Steam from the library on my E: drive) that the Game Explorer link, which is set to display as a menu, takes anywhere between 15 and 45 seconds to populate, in which time an empty box sits on top of everything else. I've no idea why it takes so long - there isn't even any disc activity for much of the wait - and other menus such as Control Panel, also displayed as a menu, appear instantly. This was an issue also on my previous build but it actually took less time to display 100+ items (albeit scrolling down the list was a horrible jerky and sluggish affair). Game Explorer in menu form was always extremely fast to display when I had Windows 7 Home Premium so I'm puzzled as to why this functionality cannot be replicated on Windows 8. Start8 has always been very slow in this area despite numerous updates. It makes using the Game Explorer menu a chore unfortunately.
I'm using a Crucial m4 SSD and 2 x 2 TB 7,200rpm hard drives, all of which are running at SATAIII speeds.
2. When I click on the Control Panel link, the menu appears with the list approximately centralised with as many items listed above as listed below. That is normal behaviour from previous versions of Windows I've used. When I click on Administrative Tools though the bottom of the list appears above the point where the mouse and Administrative Tools text is!!! Although, this is only a minor issue, it looks odd, particularly as there are not many items in that list and there is ample room for it to be centralized like with the Game Explorer (when it shows up!!!) and Control Panel menu options.
Anyone else getting these issues?
