How do I dry an eyepiece?

I got a freebie telescope, probably cheap and not great. It had been in the rain, so the inside of the eyepiece has droplets of water obscuring the view. Evidently, it hasn't dried after 24 hours.

Don't seem to be able to open it.

***EDIT: Well it's dry now. I came back a few hours later and it seemed to have less droplets (despite no change for the past 24 hours). Then I put it next to the radiator and half an hour later it was dry, albiet smudged and dirtyish.

Thought I edited this post earlier... never mind.

Get some silica gel .... put the gel into a plastic bag...with the telescope...and seal TIGHTLY.

Depending on the quality of the optics...the scope may simply be screwed...ie. if you had 2 you'd have bookends....

I'd heat up that silica gel first (30 sec at 3/4 power) in a microwave first to dry it out. Obviously it'll take a few days to dry out that condensation... and Jafo's right about the tight seal... which the telescope doesn't have (obviously). It'll be a recurrent problem for that reason.

think rice does the same thing.... have heard of people drying out their mobile phones by sealing them in a box with rice.... good luck with it...

The silica should work. Obviously it's not air tight or the water would not have gotten in there in the first place.

It's those little white packets that come with new electronics, clothes, etc. Theya re used to control moisture.

Try a craft store and ask for desiccant crystals. They are used for drying flowers. I've used them to dry out some cell phones that have been dropped in water or run through the washer.

Here is a good place I've used for Silica Gel, this stuff is great for drying anything from food, cell phones, to ear pieces:

This is a great place to learn new things. Will keep this tip for future if needed.

Guess I could use a few packs now and see if it will dry up a wizard.

Haha it appears, being the only guy on the internets to actually ask this question, this is getting Google etc. hits and is top of the pile.

If only I made this earlier, I could've searched myself and not come up with answers about the outsides... wait... no, that makes sense.

Although it kinda worked itself out anyway, just didn't want to risk warping it on a radiator... though I did it anyway and it was fine for half an hour.

Another way to dry electronic devices like ipods or cameras - put the device in a container full of dry RICE. The rice will help absorb the moisture. They did this on myth busters and it worked.

If you add veges, it can be quite nourishing as well...
