Medallion pictures for sovereigns and champions (Solved!)

Have they changed how it works?

In one of the older patches, I was able to use an image instead of the pose for sovereign and champion pictures. I've decided to take another shot at modding and I noticed no matter how I modify the sovereign file, it still uses the pose for the medallion.

Here is the code from the sovereign file:

<Medallions InternalName="">
			<All>C:\Users\***\Documents\My Games\Elemental\mods\my mod\images\rangerb.jpg</All>
		</Medallions>

Am I doing something wrong, or is this another feature stomped out since I last tried to mod?

Ugh, first the large portraits and then the medallions? I am going to fiddle around with it a bit more and see if I can get it to work.

It is a pain in the ass to get it to work now, but it is possible!

Here are the steps to change the medallion of a sovereign:

1. Place the image in elemental\gfx\medallions\

2. Edit the CoreSovereigns.xml and add your new sovereign. You do not need to include the path when you specify the medallion picture.

3. Rebuild the data.zip. In windows 7 you will have to do this as an administrator.

4. Launch the game and enjoy.

This is inferior to the old way, where you went into documents\elemental\units and just edited the custom sovereign's <medallion> settings and it just worked. But at least it is still possible!

I think they did basically remove that with the new way they do character portraits, which kinda sucks. That being said, rebuilding the data.zip is a pain and totally inferior to the default way. Sometimes it seems like they're making things like modding harder and slowly removing some minor features (which were kinda cool).

I think really what it boils down to is modding was thrown out the window. The best you can hope for (I say you, because I uninstalled the game) is that with each patch, a fix to the game play doesn't destroy a preexisting modding function.

My hope is that modding becomes a priority after Fallen Enchantress if the expansion is successful. Stardock has already said that modding support has been completely scrapped for WOM and for the release of Fallen Enchantress, which is very disappointing as well as false advertising in the case of WOM.

Yeah, damn shame, but you're right. I mean, just look at the requests thread - almost nothing implemented. Look at the in-game addon browser - untouched since release. And Frogboy and more saying over and over how they haven't even looked at the mods available.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that they want to polish the core game. But a great game should be both polished and have decent mod support.

E:wom was off to a great start with almost everything data-wise in xml format. But it wasn't brought all the way, and it wasn't documented at all. Heck, I've probably taken a few hours from Cari_Elf just to ask about what certain tags do and don't do on IRC.
