Making charisma useful..

Right now I'm sure everyone is lowering their charisma to the lowest it can go to use the points elsewhere since it only effects cost of NPC recruitment..  To make it more useful it needs to be tied to more things.

1. The cost of equipment for champions/heroes would be lowered by a high charisma score of your sovereign.

2. Chances of marriage should also be effected.

3. Maybe a percentage bonus of prestige per turn based on charisma.

ideas.

a) Charisma can buff troops, kinda like Bard's skills and leadership in the AOW series, tie it into that?

Maybe high Charisma scores could give a shot of +1 to move for stacks the leader is in?

c) Charisma could help with illusion/charming spells?

d) Maybe Charisma could also help buff a city a hero is in, if he is left in the city (production/prestige bonus?)

e) Charisma could give a bonus to combat speed for stacks the hero is in also?

 

I think all of those could help.

maybe some battle bonus its always better if you have a charismatic leader

I would do that for battles also I would have it maybe give a bonus to moral..

I say the ability to recruit heroes, the number of heroes that can be recruited, as well as their cost, should relate to charisma. 

If you add in troop bonuses to battle with better charisma, it would be a very useful ability.  Having charisma relate to successful marriage proposals sounds good to me.  Actually all of the posts above sound like good ideas.

The problem with sovereigns and charisma is a major one, but there's also the issue of champions and charisma, where this attribute literally does nothing at all.

I find it odd that anyone would drop the charisma for their sov. The games that I have where I am quickest to get to powerhouse stage are where I have managed to hire champions with bonuses right away and that is easiest to do with a high charisma. The difference in the early game between paying 16 gold or 45 for a champion with +1 to gold, arcane, tech, or prestige is huge. As a simple example, if I have to choose between a Sov with +1 gold (5 pts) or 2 more points of charisma (4-6 pts depending on other choices). I will take the charisma.

Maybe I am doing it wrong, but it seems to work better for me.

That said, charisma is indeed completely meaningless for the champions themselves.

Adding special abilities to champions and the sovereign might solve this problem if some of the abilities (and resistance from abilities) will depend on different attributes including charisma.

 

Of course, that brings us back to the suggestion of adding special abilities to champions...

I agree with #3  Higher chrisma translates into higher morale.  There is a story about a roman general (Caesar Augustus, think think)  who rallied his army with funny stories and one visual prop:  a pickle.  His troops won the battle.  Now that's charisma.

 

 

No I'm not suggesting a 'pickle' resource tile be added.

I would like to see charisma affect the production of conquered cities.

Base Production for Conquered City = 40%

Base Production for Conquered City with Champion Charisma <12 = +1%/turn to base production (i.e. after 10 turns production = 50%)

Base Production for Conquered City with Champion Charisma >=12 = +2%/turn to base production (i.e. after 10 turns production = 60%)

Base Production for Conquered City with Champion Charisma >=18 = +3%/turn to base production (i.e. after 10 turns production = 70%)
