I literally devoured all the beta videos and demonstrations that are out there and I am a little bit confused about the availability of spellbooks in the final game. In the Sovereign creation screen I have identified the obvious ones (Fire, Earth, Water, Air) but apart from them it seems to change with every video I've seen.
In the June Beta demonstration video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5wya5o1An8&feature=channel) there are "Ruin" and "Restoration". Plus the "Water" spellbook is named "Ice" (I assume they stick to naming it "Water" from now on..."
In this Beta 4 video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuuWecmMLo4) instead of "Ruin" and "Restoration" there are "Summoning" and "Enchantment".
In the latest Gameplay Trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QZPq4qm3Mo) at 2:51 you can identify a spell called "Protect Friend" that is categorized under the "Life" spellbook. That would suggest a complementary "Death" spellbook (both of which soothed my nostalgic Master of Magic heart).
Now judging by these videos there either are all of the mentioned spellbooks in the final game (Fire, Earth, Water, Air, Ruin, Restoration, Summoning, Enchantment, Life, Death), which would be awesome, or they were experimenting with them in the beta and, apart from the obvious elemental spellbooks, they will only implement some of the rest.
Another possibility is that there will only be the 4 elemental books plus 2 of the others at sovereign creation stage and the player is able to get the rest of the spellbooks via quests.
I genuinely hope for the last option and would appreciate any insight into the spellbook system.
