Well, said flaming would also get those same people banned on Elitist Jerks, often with some sarcastic, witty remark from Kaubel. I actually find Elitist Jerks a good reason why certain ban and infraction happy moderators are not just warranted but welcome.
EJ would also ban the retard before the serious theorycrafter got a chance to flame them, which is why all of WoW's humorless math geeks call EJ home. (There are a bunch of humorous math geeks there as well, but the humorless geeks are the ones actually running EJ.)
Like I said, every forum ends up with exactly the posters it deserves.
