EA seems to be finally learning from its DRM mistakes!

Yeah, Egosoft is great. But what's annoying is that they insist on keeping DRM out of their forum, and their moderators are extremely zealous on enforcing that rule. They also need to work on squashing bugs before they release their games.

Most likely it's going to be 2 or 3 DVDs with this game. Two with data and then

a game disk that is needed to play the game. Also, the game will be $59.95

or $69.95 US dollars ...

To be honest its probably more that the Sims series is considered a demographic that don't use pirated software.

I doubt you'd see EA doing this for other titles irrespective of what happens with Sims 3.  They'll see it as chalk and cheese with other titles.

To be fair, Egosoft has made it pretty clear they basically have to do it because the publishers they work with are assholes who demand DRM and all sorts of micromanagement.  Once they think they can get away with taking some initative and removing it, they do.  Note to Frogboy, these guys have gone through a lot of publishers over the years and might make good clients if you pitched SD's policies.

Anyway I could see this going either way.  Spore sales were way off their projections so if Sims 3 sells well it may convince execs that DRM was the reason (regardless of whether it really was...guys who manage by pie chart are a two-edged sword that way).

Except that the majority (even if it's only a simple majority) of people who comment on the DRM topics are visiting primarily from one of the gaming sites (GC2, Elemental, Sins, Demigod, etc) and therefore don't even see anything on the other sites that isn't in offtopic/forum issues/other common components.

So DRM is about as heated of a discussion as we can have "here".

And honestly, I'm thankful for that.  I couldn't take the political "debates" that go on at JU every day...so I just ignore it.

While I dont place much stock in it being a legit thing, at least with customer concerns firmly in the sight, lets hope an old dog can learn a new trick. I will reserve my opinion for seeing it happen first. I have learned not to trust EA or Ubi over the years.

I have learned not to trust EA or Ubi over the years.

Your right. UBISOFT released the new Prince of Persia without any copyprotection for PC and now they decided "for business reasons" the story DLC is only released for the consoles. 

I hate ubi for that.

Preaching to the choir my friend. Hell I even gave them a second chance and was the guy that promoted the hell out of the PoP policy change all over the net and got lots of good press Ubi only to have them claim some bullshit "business reasons" as to why they could not come clean with everything sales and policy wise. So to hell with them and any title they publish.

Since it's EA, root of all evil in the world, I'm still expecting the poison pill in there somewhere. Possibly in-game ads or some other nonsense.
