I'm having a couple of issues with Fences. First of all I could consistantly get explorer.exe to crash by opening the control panel. The usual point of failure was desktopdock.dll, though occasionally failed on gdiplus.dll.
I have uninstalled all desktop related software (rightclick, objectdesktop, etc.) and was still able to faithfully reproduce the error. Turn Fences off, the control panel started fine, turn Fences off and explorer.exe would fail.
(0h, and p.s., programs installed with SDC usually can't be uninstalled with Impulse.)
So far I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling .Net 1.1 and 2.1, using a different user profile, restoring from a backup from 12/9, uninstalling and reinstalling fences. Lastly I removed pretty much all the software I had installed, and tried a repair install of XP.
This resulted in the the other error I have encountered with Fences reinstalling it after the XP repair;
"Object reference not set to an instance of an object."
From what little I could figure out from google, that is some kind of .Net error, but that is as far as I can go with the skills I have.
Any help would be appreciated, as (groan) I really don't want to do a complete install of Windows.
(XP SP3 x32, 4g ram, fully patched.)
