Now I want to PreOrder, but...

Very Rough System Specs?

Greetings,

   Nice to see Gas Powered Games is still steaming along just fine, even with the high price of Gas these days (ohh, bad joke!). Anyway, I'd really like to Pre-Order the game, but a few things are holding me back from really wanting to do it. First of all, I'd like to help out on Beta, so that is why I would like to Pre-Order, so my main concern is whether or not my system can really handle this game. I'm not looking for exact system specs, since I'm pretty positive the end specs have yet to be confirmed with all the polish and clean-up scheduled for later own the road.

   There is a slight issue with my system, and mainly it is the fact that I can only max out at 2gigs of DDR400 PC3200 RAM (Low Density). I'm already having terrible trouble playing a lot of games that've come out recently, and it'll be sometime before I can upgrade my motherboard and invest in new ram and enable my Sli. My Graphics card can't handle DirectX 10 Graphics either, only 9.0 and below - no need to specify exactly which one I'm using however. For it is the RAM that really concerns me, and I want to know if trying to apply for the Beta is simply a waste of time and money or should I seriously consider Beta knowing I can handle the game reasonably well?

If you can play SupCom or FA you should be able to play this just fine as it's an optimized version of the engine and has less units. (there is a demo you can dl to see if you can run it)

Why don't you post your system specs? You didn't really give us any information to work with.

I'll try the Demo first, and if that doesn't work out then I've got no options. So don't worry about my specs just yet.

Alright, I can run Supreme Commander just fine - but I'm still rather concerned. This is because SupCom requires 1gig of ram, and I have 2gigs. In short, I have .5 gigs going into the OS, leaving 1.5 gigs free to play - so no worries there. But games which come out further down the road, like Demigod for instance, have a habit of wanting bigger and better graphics. So I fear Demigod will demand 2gigs of RAM to play, which would leave me short .5 gigs.

You're fine. Demigod will not need more than 2 GB of RAM. Unless a game is compiled for 64-bit, it probably won't support more than 2 GB without a hack/patch anyway. The requirements on a box generally take the operating system overhead into account.

Well I'd like to give Demigod a go, but I seriously hope the Beta doesn't demand seriously high graphic power. If they are aiming for something like SupCom then I should be rather fine. I'm always concerned when a lot of action happens on screen, that is when I tend to get the most bogged down and in an RTS that tends to mean whomever has the fastest system wins.

Orlean, the engine for Demigod is the same that was used for Supreme Commander. That is why everyone is telling you that if you can run Supreme, you can probably do Demigod. Another thing to remember is that the engine has matured a bit, and there will be a lot less units on Demigod then you can have on big Supreme Commander games, thus instead of requiring more, it will likely require less horsepower to run Demigod then Supreme Commander.

On a side note, most games run into bottlenecks on the video card (speed and ram) long before hitting the main RAM bottleneck. Unless your planning on running several programs at the same time as Demigod (or another game for that matter) 2 gigs will be plenty.

Well I felt comfortable enough to go ahead an pre-order. I'm sure I won't be dissapointed as long as my system can handle it just fine. I've always enjoyed RTS games, and the only one I've really taken great pleasure from as of late was the Dawn of War series because I could play it rather fine in the massive games which take place within it (not to mention Tau Missle tanks).

Anways, Demigod looks like a lot of fun and I look forward to give it some time - even in the rough stages of Beta. I've a very expressive idea person, and trust that I do give some very detailed (and sometimes graphically supported) feedback. ^^ I hear the Beta may be coming at the end of August? Seems fine to me, would be nice to have a shot at it sooner - but I know how things work in the bizz.

It is supposed to run a bit better than SupCom does at least on lower end comps.

I'd recommend an upgrade though..
you can build a comp that'll run crysis at 30fps on 1600x1200 high settings for like $500-$600.(excluding monitor, keyboard, mouse. You should already have those.)

Because faster computers are more fun. ;o

You can get a 4850 for only $170.

Don´t need a faster computer when I´m able tu run everything.

You´re right, a single GPU is cheap. But I would need a new mainboard, a new cpu, propaply new ram etc.

But my CPU will thwart the power of a 3850agp or even a 4850agp.
And I don´t think, there a many possibilities to upgrade the cpu without changing the board.
