You cannot bump your own posts

You do not need to reply to your own posts

This is just for the benefit of my sanity:

1. You cannot bump your own post, the forum ignores a reply by the original poster unless someone has since replied (i.e. if you post twice in a row to a topic, only the first post will push the topic up the forum)

2. You do not need to reply to your own post to have it appear in Recent Posts. It just takes a couple of minutes.

3. If you edit your post to move it to another forum, rest assured it has moved, you just need to wait a couple of minutes before the boards realise.

So, now maybe we can avoid all these ridiculous posts with the first reply always being "bump"?

I'm fairly sure they are all wrong, apart from 3. I've seen multiple posts both climb up, and I've seen posts never EVER hit recent posts. Such as this one. THEY MUST BE BUMPED to appear in recent. Your post sat for 26 minutes without hitting recent (then I commented). I don't know why, but they do. I have never, ever seen a zero-reply post in recent. Also, I've seen posts in recent that the OP bumped. So yeah, only 3 is right, and that's if there isn't an error (which happens a fair bit for IE users, I can imagine)

I agree with Marcathonas, I have never had a post show up in recent no matter how long I wait unless I bump it myself.

1 hour 20 mins ago, never in recent. You MUST bump, and it's easier to self-bump, as it does work.

This turns out not to be the case. So how did you come to your conclusions that made you jump to ...conclusions?

I would like to see people put an additional comment instead of the "bump" statements.

Wade, I know I'm guilty of only putting bump and I understand your desire for an additional remark instead. So what if people just did thier post as a 2 parter. That would cause the post to bump, and not look so odd.

Perhaps Stardock could take this thread and the 3 or 4 others like it as a hint and improve how recent posts are displayed. I"ve noticed marked improvements in server reliability, and the Watch and Search functions work now, so props for that. However, the layout and sub-divisions of the forum are still a lot less useful than they could be.

Perhaps Stardock can make the "Recent Posts" Window three times as long, or longer and allow all recent posts to be seen on it. Have them scroll down at a regular pace and not being pushed down by new posts.

This would be fine.

Wade, to me I come to the forum to learn things I didn't know, get ideas, and try to help make the even more wonderful than it is. I think if you're going to post, especially if you rant you should monitor your post because you might learn something.

Wade, you said "we've all jumped to conclusions throughout life." I was just saying the forum is here for all of us to learn from each others experience, and if someone has a problem it is only reasonable that they monitor and respond to thier own post.

I Troll both SD & WC fourms.


The SD Forum seems much slower on updating.  I have seen posts with no replies make it to most recent, but not really ones related to GCII and not in a while.  With as much traffic as the SD Forum is getting due to GCII, maybe SD should consider not showing the Stickied ones on the main page and leave each section open for the most recent activity in that block.  Once you click a tab for the area you're looking for, you see all the stickies anyway.
