I am running Start8 v.1.12 beta on Windows 8 Pro (all Windows updates installed).
I have done tested my hard drive for errors (none found), and have since done a full format of my computer's hard drive and installed Windows 8 Pro afresh.
But I am still experiencing random Start8 menu lockups, freezes, or whatever the correct terminology might be: Start8 fails to respond and explorer.exe restarts. Sometimes when I press the keyboard's Win key, Start8 locks up/freezes, and explorer.exe restarts. Sometimes when I click on the Start8 button on the taskbar, Start8 locks up/freezes, and explorer.exe restarts. Sometimes when I attempt to search for something in Start8's search field, Start8 locks up/freezes, and explorer.exe restarts. Whenever I experience these random explorer.exe restarts it is after attempting to use Start8 menu via keyboard or mouse.
Unfortunately as stated, these actions do not happen regularly but randomly: sometimes everything works beautifully and as expected (and as wanted and desired!).
Here are a few other threads which had similar (or same) reported issues/problems (I don't know if there are other threads as I didn't continue to look):
bug process explorer restarting
Start8 causes Windows Explorer to crash at random times!
Explorer restarts when searching from the Start 8 search box
1.1, 'Runtime Error' and explorer crashes on search
Any new discoveries made regarding this issue, which obviously is not affecting all, but still affecting others? Presently, I have uninstalled Start8, for now at least, due to my although random yet recurring problems when it is installed, but will keep a watch on its development.
regards,
Laurence
