| How can I easily find and delete all the wb5 registry keys? |
It is a bit of a procedure, and if you have not worked in the registry before, I would not necessarily suggest doing it.
If you want to give it a go, you would first go to:
Start > Run > type: regedit > click "OK"
You will see a two pane Window, with Keys (folders) in the left pane, and data information in the right pane.
The first thing you want to do, is click on each of the 'HKEY...' listings in the left pane, with one highlighted at a time: go to File > Export > save as a *.reg file with a descriptive name (I use the "KEYNAME_old" format) > save to say "My Documents"
Once this is done, you would highlight the "My Computer" entry at the top of the left pane > Edit > Find > enter "WindowBlinds" - without quotation marks > click "Find Next".
When an entry is found, you will see an open key (folder) in the left pane, and the name WindowBlinds in either the left pane item, or in the right pane as either a "Name" or as "Data".
Note - to be safe, if the word WindowBlinds is in the "Data" column in the right pane, and not in the key name in the left pane - you should only delete the data field by double-clicking the "Name" item (which will open a dialog with the Value Data field highlighted which includes the WindowBlinds listing. You would clear the Value Data text field by hitting "Delete". This will keep you relatively safe.
Any key (folder) in the left pane bearing the name "WindowBlinds, wbload.exe, wbload.document" can be deleted safely - assuming you do not have any version of the WindowBlinds program installed.
You can continue the "Find" command by hitting "F3" after each entry has been found, until you receive the message "Finished searching through the registry".
Item #1 - you can replace one of the exported ".reg" files by double-clicking it, although I have seen this fail in some instances - so beware that the registry is a place you want to make changes carefully after verifying that you clearly see what you are deleting or changing. This would be used as a backup if things go sideways if you make a mistake in the registry.
Item #2 - I strongly recommend only deleting the following:
Left pane keys (folders) bearing the name:
- wbload.exe
- wbload.document
- WindowBlinds
- WBSrv
Right pane:
Delete any "Data" field that contains the word WindowBlinds, by double-clicking the "Name" to invoke the Value dialog (in most cases the name will be "default") - and then delete the text field entry containing the word "WindowBlinds".
If you follow the advice in "Item #2 for both panes, you should be safe in the registry for the procedure of removing WB keys.
Note - this may not be all the WB keys, since I am not aquainted with all the files written by the program and it's installer.
