Epic? What games did they make? Unreals? Whatever.
Personally i don't play microtranscation games. I do buy some DLC (on 360) but otherwise i'm not going to pay for small stuff on PC. Mods usually do same as microtransaction DLC and better. I don't see Facebook as the future of PC gaming either... though for some reason, everyone insist on having it (and Twitter) integrated every where. (For example, SC2 will have Facebook integration.. but no chat channels, LAN, and bunch of other stuff. Blizzard's priorities FTL). FB games are just an evolution to flash games, on larger scale, more features, more community stuff. And flash games sure as hell never became THE PC gaming (though aren't they the most played games? By the numbers, easy to find and play, anywhere).
So. Whom indies has piratism killed? It seems that there are a lot of indie games nowadays. And has piratism really changed the business model? DRM's are more invasive nowadays true... but otherwise? Impulse and Steam and other direct download systems are only a natural evolution to selling video games, not a response to piratism. At least that's how i see things. (Not an expert on this stuff of course, i don't think even a layman applies here)
And consoles... Consoles are more popular than PCs as gaming platforms, true? Added togheter that is. Or at least becoming? Wonder why... I wonder also how much does the requirement for constant hardware upgrades affect PC game sales. Can't buy newest games, nor even a year (or two) old games unless i play them on minimun settings and even then they don't work well (exaggeration). Most people are not upgrading their hardware every 6 months, or even every year. Probably even less often. The newest console generation began in 2005 and is probably being replaced around 2015-2016. 10 years on same system. And the games look better and better. Optimization of game engines and such beats hardware upgrades IMO.
And again going on borderline off-topic. What can you do when a thought leads to other? Anyway, money's on console due PC piratism? I doubt that. I think consoles simply offer better accessiblity, better games (generally, at least when i glance on my game racks/shelves) and... uhhm. Biased views here, can't find other reasons
Yeah, yeah, I know, borderline off-topic, probably irrelevant stuff, things that have nothing to do with the thread (which is not that well defined in any case). Blame environment, eduacation and upbringing for not concentrating on the subject. Don't expect me to change though.
PS I have to ask for clarifcation: piratism means copyright infringement and piracy is robbery on sea?
