Demigod was definitely one of the most underrated rts games ever to be released but I think it can make a comeback. Right now the community is relatively small and it isn't getting any larger but all hope is not lost. Here are my recommendations to help boost the status of Demigod:
1. Take 1-2 years (let's say 2010 and 2011) to develop a standalone expansion which includes:
a. 8-10 demigods
b. Single player mode which follows the lore of the demigods. Include cinematic cutscenes and storytelling.
c. More Multiplayer modes and maps
2. Allow mod makers to make and publish maps
3. Release the game on Steam! Include Demigod + Expansion package deal (Original Demigods are locked in the expansion). I suggest a retail price of around $20 for the original.
4. Do NOT compare the game with DOTA! (Many gamers expected Demigod to be a DOTA clone like Heroes of Newerth or League of Legends)
5. Use standard copy protection on the games (but not extreme like Spore)
6. Ensure there are no Multiplayer connectivity issues before launch!
PS: I don't actually know what are the plans for Demigod because I haven't been on the forums since around launch. These are just my suggestions so Stardock can take it or leave it. If they don't do something along these lines, Demigod will fade away by the end of the year.
