Downloading updates on one computer for games on another?

My main gaming computer (the one I'm on right now actually) has dial-up and makes updating games a long and rather dull process (and sometimes extremely annoying), so I was wondering if I could download the game updates on my laptop while I'm at school (on their broadband connection) and transfer them (preferably via flashdrive) to my main computer?
EDIT: Why I Ask: My dial-up has a tendency to randomly disconnect. For instance I was just downloading the update through SDC for GC2:DA, and was at 71%. My internet then disconnected and after reconnecting, I find myself starting over from 5%. And I'm only downloading at a rate of roughly 3.00 kb/sec.
Anyone know if and/or how it could be done? Or if I could download your standard issue update program (like found with other games not available on SDC) from somewhere and just update with that?

If you're moving a game with activation (GalCiv II, Sins of a Solar Empire, Gods: Lands of Infinity), you'll need to do that on your desktop with SDC (it's in the right-click menu). It's not bandwidth intensive, so your dial-up should have no trouble with it.
