Build Order

I’ve been experimenting with build order, I was wondering what the veteran players were doing?

Right now I start out with Star Port, I try to buy it. Then the following:

3 Basic Factories
1 Entertainment Center
2 Labs
2 Market Centers
1 Farm

I let Governor upgrade them. I try to research industry based techs, research, economy then morale enhancing techs. I cycle through them in that order to upgrade my industry before taking the more expensive upgrades to the other areas.

The Lower PQ planets I have been building them up in the same order. If I only have a class 5 then it will get a Star Port, 3 Factories and an Entertainment Center. A class 3 would only get a Star Port and 2 factories. I not sure how sound this tactic is, any thoughts?

Well, I am not sure that an entertainement center is needed if no farm are build.

More, I don't really see why you want only factory on lower planet. You could only build ship. Not sure if it is really needed at the beginning of the game. It could be better not to build startport and build some labs instead.

BTW, when I colonize new planets, the first thing I buy is a factory

on pq 7+ i go factory > factory > starport, and buy the first factory. once the starport is done, the icon shows up, and i build either colony ships or constructors and either labs or market centers. i only schedule 2 or 3 items at a time to stay on top of things.

if i find a pq 20+, it gets about 15 factories after the starport, then a manufacturing capital, then it starts cranking out the superprojects.

if a planet has one or two approval bonus tiles, then i build farms and entertainment centers.... and all the troop ships will stop in to pick up all the extra population on the way to the front, or i will send colony ships to the planet that is building the troop ships.

hopefully this is something the AI will never pick up on... heh heh heh....

citizen axhed... u just opened up a whole new idea for me with that stop and pick up thing.... anyways it really has to do with where your planet is. if its in the back of your empire away from harm theres no reason to put factorys on it to help your starport. its proably best to build a factory first. it really depends on where the planet is. so you cant have a set build list like in GC1. it about what you want where. plantes with factories are good way up front close to the other empires. espcially one u might be going to war with. also if a planet has a certain bonus like 300% on research go ahead and stack research on it.
but in short. yea factory then starport then w/e you empire needs.

If I'm building a ship production world then I put down a starport first as it's cheap and quick to build then I put down say 3 factories. Once those are done I evaluate the colony and build either a farm, entertainment centre or more factories. Depending on the size of the world I might put down some unique structures once the colony is up and running.

On a world where I don't intend to build ships, if its a small world I go straight into research labs/market centres, on larger world I'll put down a couple of factories to be demolished later. Their purpose is to get the world developed quickly then they have served their purpose. I always build a farm on larger planets.

Same way I play. I usually only have 2 Star Ports. That is if I have more than 4 planets. Otherwise 1 Star Port is enough for me. Once the colony ships are done I start cranking out the constructors. A couple decked out culture SBs later I have all the flipped planets I need.

Since your colony can't grow past 3 million/billion (this is not clear in the game because items like how much the farms can feed refer to millions and some others like the news reports refer to billions) without a farm. However, that farm can be built much faster if a factory exists, so I build a factory first and a farm second. My third choice depends on various factors such as the bonues of the titles, the class of the planet, the planet's purpose, and how fast I need to build ships. My third choice is usually a star port, factory, or research lab. Since buying items if very expensive, I have chosen to build instead and save my treasury for running my empire in the red until my colonies are established; since building that first factory on a new colony is a pain I would consider buying it. Early in the game I colonize like crazy trying to lay claim to the best planets nearby before the other players. Once they are established and my economy is back in the black, I repay the debt and build up a cash reserve for later economic down turns.
