Sorry to hear you are having issues.
- For the menu background, you need also check your setting and Transparency slider setting. Please adjust accordingly. For example, if you do not wish to alter the picture, please do not select any of the option. In your screenshot above, you did select dark gray as texture color, that is why your background look grayish. Refer screenshot below.
- To see the custom grid texture applied you will need to set your Start menu to Grid style. Refer 2nd screenshot below.
Also, there is not grid background for All program listing.
