yep.. that did it... but of course, now all my other things have white backgrounds... no more 'dark mode'. I suppose that's the cost. If Start11 offers taskbar Advanced tweaks, wouldn't it be nice if font colors were among them?

You can set windows to have light taskbar and dark windows. It is the custom option.
The issue is whilst we could offer text colour override, we couldn't offer colour overrides for the clock or system tray icons which in dark taskbar mode will be often white.
