Hello, I started using Start11 and I feel it's so close to being perfect, but needs a little love in certain areas.
Windows 10 Style:
- Let us group icons together (as the default behavior Windows 10 allows on its start menu with Folder Groups)
- Allow us to resize how many icons can be in a column. Limiting to 4 (if "Show more tiles on start" is on) feels extremely limiting like Windows 10. Adding a customizable number option would allow for some truly unique customization.
- Ability to remove labels is not present, like it is on the group right-click menu in Windows 11 Style mode.
- PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let us get RID of the boxes (square tile colors) around the icons. Just an option for Transparent Tiles would GREATLY enhance Windows 10 Style, and make it an alternative to alot of what I described having issue with in the Windows 11 rows.
Windows 11 Style:
- As with the Windows 10 Style, it would be great if we can group icons together in "Folder Groups" as Windows 10 Default menu allows.
- Send an entire group to another page by right-clicking the group bar and choosing "Move to Next Page" / "Move to Previous Page"
- Disable Icon Auto row: Allow us to move icons to whichever position we feel they should be in. If I would like an icon on the far right of a row and one in the middle with space in between, I should be able to do this, instead of the icon automatically left align at the end of the row. This would allow for spaces in the grid which would help from looking so cluttered or allow us to add a 'spacer' if that's easier (less ideal).
- Icon alignment: give us an option just to auto-align icons to the center or right instead of just left (default).
- Page indicators and transition between pages: allow the mouse wheel to scroll between pages when it hovers over the page-indicator, or an option to enable swipe to the next page if swiping on an empty place on the menu. At the very least, allow a shortcut key to swap between pages (1, 2, 3, etc...) when the Start11 menu is up.
System:
- An Export settings function is a MUST for any user using this app. From what I can tell, all settings are stored in the registry anyway, so I don't believe this would be super difficult to implement.
- Allowing a functional "Change Icon" on the right-click menu that would allow .png files to replace folder or shortcut icons would be amazing. I know this is a big ask, but it really would allow for instant customizing that's not currently present.
Anyway, this is a great piece of software, and it really does address something MS has just completely abandoned: the ability for end-users to customize things the way they want it to remain productive and a pleasure to use while working on your personal computer. Keep up the great work!
