I have to admit, I really only bought this game to support it's newest development lead, Kael, who I've been a fan of since his early days of Fall From Heaven. I've always wanted to donate to his projects, especially after playing the CivIV mod masterpiece Fall From Heaven II, so it was a no-brainer to buy Elemental when I heard the news. To be truthful, I didn't think much of the game at first. Much like Dragon Age, it was too easy to exploit. For instance: the easy to exploit mechanics such as Archery, and Fire-based Bolt Spells essentially ruined any challenge. I have to admit, the new changes really raised my expectations of the game, so I can't help but be excited to see what kind of future lay ahead. So, for the sake of helping to polish the game, I'm going to create a lovely bug/crash list. I'll do my best to recreate the bugs, and I'll do my best to screen-shot any relevant information possible. Of course, with crashes, I will also upload the .zip files.
(This will be a progressive list that will grow as I find bugs/crashes.)
Patch 1.09o Bugs
- Newly created characters in 1.09o do not save as they did in previous beta patches, or current release patch.
- Recreating this was easy, I tried saving new games, and forcing auto-saves. Nothing stuck; none of my newly created characters show up any longer. This is a bug that happens every time after you delete a character. After deleting an old character and creating a new character, the new characters do show up until after doing a restart of the game.
- Newly created characters' equipment list does not show up.
- Recreating this was easy. Simply starting a game; then going to the main-menu, and starting another new game while the current one is being played causes this to happen. This bug does not go away until after restarting the game.
- Founding a new Kingdom offers a maximum population of only 5 people. It is actually possible to run into a conundrum where you can not build any Workshops, and/or Huts by accidentally building the wrong thing initially. (Such as a Study or Arcane Laboratory.) - This forces growth to halt unless you hit a lucky goody hut. Maybe a pop-up letting newbies know this would prevent the initial "WTF Moment".
- This is easily recreated by simply starting a new game, and once again wasting those first few Materials on a building other than a hut or workshop.
- On occasion, the paper dolls will move without animation. This effect can last from a single move, to almost a minute in duration.
- This appears to occur as a result of slow-down or memory loss, which has a tendency to happen a lot with Elemental after a battle, or after merging/splitting unit stacks.
- After about an hour of gameplay, battles have a tendency to go in fast and/or slow motion. The paper dolls will move without animation, and often times attacks can take up to 5-10 seconds to enact after being activated.
- This appears to occur as a result of slow-down or memory loss. It's easily recreated simply by playing for an extended period of time, signifying that this is caused by a memory loss.
- The "Finding a new settlement" goody hut still does not work. In previous release (Not Beta) versions of the game, it showed a grayed out settlement in the fog of war; currently it gives nothing.
- This is a constant bug, and is recreated every time I get this goody hut.
- Damage taken from an auto-resolve battle does not always update on the character card in the lower-right hand corner.
- This is a constant bug, and is recreated almost every time my Sovereign gets into a 1 vs 1 fight against a creature, or a bandit. The health will update after some time passes, often after constant clicking, or changing targets.
- Page Up and Page Down no longer cycle through all of the cities, rather, it cycles through one or two different cities, rather than all of them.
- This is a constant bug, and I haven't found any way to correct it.
- A graphical glitch sometimes occurs with the name of the city when creating a new settlement, loading up an old save file, or even renaming the settlement. It reminds me of the 8-bit NES graphics glitches, with the garbled boxes in place of graphics. It is a temporary bug, simply hitting "next turn" often fixes this bug when it does occur.
- I haven't been able to recreate it, it seems to be a very random bug. I'll try to grab a screen-shot of it when I see it next.
- I am unable to cast, "Blink", due to having "Not enough mana" - the problem is, Blink only costs 16 Mana, while I have 246 Mana in reserve.
- This occurs in every battle, so it's easy to recreate.
- Dispelling a summoned unit, while the unit is still inside of a city does not remove the unit's "Total Power" from the shield icon on the right side of the city info bar. It does not go away until you either reload the game, get into a fight, dispel another spell or start another turn.
- I've been able to recreate it with Summon Familiar every time, summoning the creature, garrisoning it, and dispelling it gives the city the battle power of 10 every time, until doing one of the aforementioned actions.
- It's possible to "trap" enemy Pioneers from reaching their destination by surrounding them with units. If you're friendly with them, this forces them into a conundrum where they simply can not escape.
- I abuse this exploit quite a lot, especially when I'm competing with an enemy AI for a plot of land.
- Creating new factions does not give you the option to begin with a starter-tech like the classic factions receive.
- Although it is rather nice to be able to cherry-pick your benefits.
Patch 1.09o Crashes
- Starting up a 1.09n save game, and trying to train a new unit in any city causes it to crash.
- This was done on purpose, as a test crash so I new where the .zips were located. I'm leaving it here as an example until I can find some genuine ones later on. This crash is easily to recreate, simply because it's an old save game.
- With two caravans on auto-move, one towards a friendly nation's capital city, and one moving towards my third city - I clicked to guide a Pioneer to a new location to settle. Upon clicking, the game auto-moved the caravans, the game stuttered, and crashed.
- I am unable to recreate this, as my Auto-save was not correctly configured to save every turn. I tried to recreate the events leading up to it, but I could not recreate the crash. I've made auto-save work for every turn now.
- Crashed after Teleporting my Sovereign to a nearby city that was about to be attacked by a large group of random enemies. I moved a Caravan to the south-east to try and save it, but the auto-move on another Caravan put it in danger's way. I clicked on the enemies to focus on them, when the game crashed.
- I haven't been able to recreate it yet.
- Crash to desktop occurred after beginning the construction of multiple Inn's in most of my cities to raise their prestige. I also began construction on a single House before I clicked "End Turn" - Immediately after this, the game froze for a second, then shut off on it's own without an error message.
- I can't recreate this error no matter how hard I try.
- Clicking on "Training" on a Level 3 or higher city seems to sporadically cause a crash. It does not always happen, but it occurs often when I've played for a long time, or I've just loaded up a save game.
- I've been able to recreate it a couple times, mostly when I've loaded up a save game.
