I find that hard to believe as my account statment say that it has $62 less since 6 days a go. Stardock have to ask for that amount in the first place for the bank to put a hold on that amought of money.

If your bank has failed to release the hold after it was not acted upon, you should contact them about that (hold policies vary from bank to bank). No actual charge has been made.

If there was no charge how did the bank know to hold the money. I just got back from shopping and no suprise here the money is not accesible. What I Beleive happens is that Stardock does some sort of charge for the full price of the preorder to check to see if the person has enough funds and then does a cancel on the order. But what's the point if the money goes back into the customers account after 30 days. come Next year the customer may not even have the same bank account.

Maybe stardock should just do what steam does. $1 to see if the credit card is valid.

I have pre-ordered and my money 'seemed' to have been taken out of my account for a few days but was restored. It is just put on a temporary hold and not withdrawn (i.e. Stardock never touched it).

Your bank seems to be lame/ripping you off by not returning the money - it isn't really a Stardock problem.

The problem with steams system is that if you cancel your pre-order you have to try and get your $1 back and it also means they take two transaction's (some people have to pay per transaction) so it's also dearer.

Stardock didn't put a hold on your money, your bank did.

HINT: join a credit Union, they're much nicer about these things...

Stardock checks your card to make sure you have the money, the bank puts a hold on those funds.. if it still isn't released, your bank is being really dickish.

I am from australia and that is not true. I use a direct debit card and if they tried to take that much money out I would of noticed

Mate I am not a liar.

I had this problem with the preorder of demigod and argos naval yard as well.

With argos navel yard I pre ordered a few day before release and they took the money out of my account and then on release day they took another amount. There is no reason for stardoct to take the full amout considering that the game doesn't come out until next year.

There is no reason for stardoct to take the full amout considering that the game doesn't come out until next year.

I think it has less to do with Stardock checking if you have enough money in your account and more with Stardock checking that your information is valid. I could be wrong, but Stardock shouldn't really care. If you pay using a credit card, Stardock will get paid on release even if you can't afford it (and you'll be stuck with the fees); if you pay with a bank or debit card, depending on the situation the charge might not go through in which case Stardock doesn't really lose anything, or the charge will go through, Stardock will get paid and you will again be charged the associated fees. So yeah, I think it's Stardock checking your information and the banks putting a temporary hold on the value for their own reasons.

Debit cards and credit cards are fundamentally not the same thing. Debit cards work on money that you actually have, credit cards work on credit.

Having the MasterCard logo on it just means you can use it at places that take credit cards, not that it functions like one. What would appear as a hold on a credit card probably looks like a withdrawl because you can't put a hold on a debit card.

We've explained what is going on about 15 times now, call your bank and sort it out.

(That being said, Stardock shouldn't bother putting a hold on stuff fo a pre-order. They'll just have to verify it all again when the actual charge happens anyway.)

Quickie version:

When you input the information, SD sends a request to the card company (whoever that is) asking "can this card be charged such - and - such ammount?" The card company then puts a hold on the funds, expecting the company on the other end to go ahead with the transaction (which SD does not do until the beta is released). Because SD never asks for the money, it gets hold a pre-set amount of time (depending on the card company's policies) before being released.

For whatever reason, your bank is being asinine about not letting you use your funds, despite the money still being there. Talk to them, they're the ones you need to talk to, not SD. Not whining at us on the forums. Talk to the bank.
