Screen Resoulution limit

Everytime i start up my Sins of a Solar Empire, it crashes. As soon as it tries to load the cinimatics, it stops working, no dump file, no nothing. My current resolution is 1920x1200(epic christmas present). I also reinstalled windows a week ago(file space) and I redownloaded it off Impulse.

What's the ABSOLUTE top Sins of a Solar Empire can support, if there's any limit.

Edit: Disregard all that, i tried switching resolution sizes, having my previous screen as the main monitor, still crashes

Need a bit more info. OS, vid card, etc. I had a similar problem, but without knowing your set-up, I can't really answer your question.

res. is really only limited by ur monitor and/or vid card and rarely buy the program, but like darksentinel said we need more info

Uhh, don't really know what else to put because like, i said, it worked fine before i reinstalled windows.(and got the screen)

It worked FINE before i reinstalled Windows(and before the problems with the downloads on Impulse)

I play in 1920x1200, and yes it looks fabulous. I don't have a super high end video card either, ATI 2600 XT (AGP). I make sure to keep my drivers up to date though.

edit: definitely make sure you get the latest drivers for your video card

Quick question. Does you motherboard have onboard video?

The problem I had was this. Popped in a 9500GT, and hooked up my 2 monitors. Some stuff worked fine, but one game would die at the cinematics like you describe. I have an Acer Aspire E380 that has the onboard video. I thought I had disabled it in device manager. Then I noticed on the display properties that there was a 3rd screen, which was the onboard. As soon as I killed that, everything worked.

Also note that the game should support the highest resoulution your primary monitor is capable of. Make sure you have the latest drivers. Version 180.48 as of the writing of this. Also go through the nVidia control panel to make sure all your settings are correct there as well.

i have the same video card and my game works great cept for the 4 min dumps i had today...which is funny cause i never had a mini dump before, and i have been playing off and on for about a year.

Ok...Grab the 180.48 drivers, and install those.

Just had a thought also. Bear in mind, this is based on if you have a motherboard with the nVidia chipset. You have 2 sets of drivers. Video, and motherboard. Just had a problem with my fiancé's machine because of a conflict between 2 of the drivers. Popped a 6600LE in her machine. The motherboard drivers have a video driver there, as well as the ones I loaded from the video drivers themselves, and it caused all kinds of problems. So, let's do this...

Go to www.nvidia.com and get the latest drivers for the vid card and motherboard.
Install the motherboard drivers first, making sure not to load the video driver there.
After the required reboot, install the 180.48 drivers. Will also require a reboot.
After Vista loads, check your display properties, and the settings in the nVidia control panel to make sure all the settings are correct and the way you want them.
Make sure you have Sins patched to 1.12.

I just tried different settings. Different resoulutions on both screens. Desktop spanned and cloned, etc., and it fired up each time for me. Another question I just thought of. Are you OC'ing anything on your machine? Some programs get twitchy when you do that. Lastly, check your event viewer, and see if it shows any problems there.

The motherboard is a: )Phoenix - Award WorkstationBIOS v6.00PG, also i checked on the nVidia site, the latest driver is 178.24, according to the site, the only latest other driver i can find is the 180.84, did you mean that?

I'm currently updating my Windows with all 12 possible updates

I also tried what you tried, didn't work for me.

I'm not OC'ing.

It's the latest version, i always update to the latest version before i play.
