I have considered it on multiple occasions (I normally play Obscene, but go Suicidal for Zero Year Wins), but in all fairness, when I'm playing, I'm too obsessed with micromanaging my way to succes (or rather to survival, I find that surviving tends to give me the win) to remember the important events and when they happened. I am also too lazy (ironically) to plough through the event log afterwards to fill in the blanks...
Well, I never went through event logs myself.
Instead I save the game at some "breaking points", like "End of colonization", "first war", "Economic boom" etc. so I can take back and take SS when I want to write an AAR.
I can't take SS during gameplay anyway as the game crashes whenever I try to Alt-Tab out in Fullscreen mode and the game is way too laggy in non-fullscreen for me.
