First, I don't care about the people who say:
"The game isn't unbalanced etc."
"I like fighters/bombers etc."
"Illuminators pwn everything etc."
If that's all you have to say, just don't bother posting, because I'm going to ignore you.
To the GOOD players, with RTS experience, have good (if not great) micromanagement, solid macro, and an interest in seeing how far we can optimize this game, keep reading.
Right now, Tec LRM spam in small map 1v1 is the dominant race/strat combination. It is well known (and shown empirically) that LRMs are incredibly powerful (overpowered), and combined with Tec's amazingly low tech requirements, a devastating combination.
How do we contest a Tec player?
This thread is for ideas, FULLY FLESHED OUT IDEAS, including a build order, combat strategy, cap ship choice, scouting order, colonization order, etc. Don't make a post saying "X unit might be good." That is worthless. We all know the Tec build. How do we counter it? Another key to this is that we won't care who wins or loses, BUT all 1v1s will be posted so everyone can see how the matchup is developing. I expect Tec to win almost all of the early games, but that the other races might catch up later due to strategy evolution.
So here's my first suggestion, which I will play vs a GOOD Tec player, with a thorough understanding of the game, for a few games (5 maybe?) and post replays online.
Make 4-5 Navigators (at least), scout the Tec and take the extractors. Take local asteroid. Assailants ff the cobalts, Navigators FF the LRMs. Optional: take the sentinel frigates to counter any fighter squadrons the cap ship has, as well as soft counter the LRMs. Note, Vasari have less efficient (cost/mineral/supply) ships than the Tec, so must keep map control and harass a lot. Unsure on Capital ship, but a safe choice would be the battleship. The Carrier is an option, but becomes obsolete by midgame. It is possible to utilize a Carrier rush, but have to deal with the problem that hull repair is a useless skill (compared to shield regen).
Any thoughts/intelligent well thought out comments would be appreciated, as well as takers for the 1v1 theorytesting.
